IrishLion, nicely done Sir!!
some of these cacti are nature's PEA creation stations!!
I didn't know that it is being sold now as a weight loss supplement and is popular with some body builders. It is also added to animal feed. This could be the alkaloid in Trichocereous Pachanoi that causes the "speedy" effect some report. I never felt an increased heart rate with peyote, most likely due to pellotine and other akaloids that balance out that effect. Thanks for the information Irishlion.
Some supplement manufactures claim that hordenine acts as a MAOI-B. I don't think it is an inhibitor, but it might help to compete for the active site with the other random / novel phenethylamines they throw together. Many that I have talked to find the addition of hordenine does little if anything to increase the speed or punch of the supplement. I'm sure nature had a reason for tossing it in there with the other cacti magic. Might have been just another try at a defense chemical (i'm sure it kills something). Thanxs again to you both cactuswren & Irishlion for the good research
