Well i was wondering if when i mix the pulsed brown rice ,Verm,water,h20 with honey, i substitute the Verm with potting soil?
If any one has done this , how did it go and should i add the same ammount of potting soil as verm? and the top layer where there would be plain verm i use ,that cotton stuff ,poly...something i can't think of it right now.
Thanks everyone

don't believe everything you read.
esp. at sites like shroomwizard's
potting soil will NOT work as a substitute for vermiculite.

First I run it through a collander to seperate the sunflower seeds, then I fill quart jars a little under half way with the seed (it expands as it hydrates) then fill with water loosly cap and put on my shelf for a day.
After it soaks for 24 hrs or so I rinse VERY well under hot water and drain, load back into quarts put tyvek in place(1 layer under lid and 1 over lid) cover tops with alum.foil and p.c for 60 min at 15 psi.
oh and I put 2 3/16 holes in my lids before applying the tyvek 1 for air exchange and 1 for innoc. that can be covered with tape afterwards.
good luck !

also the tyvek , i can get this at loews or home improv stores?
maybe mom -pop shops?
so rinse, soak for 24 hr ,drain, rinse with hot/warm water for a few min, leave in the collander for 30-40 min, fill jar half way or so,

nozzle-a round "weight" type thing that gos on the nipple on the lid?
actually im not sure i have to look around, how about a rice cooker? the electric one? would that work?

a rice cooker will not suffice
the red plug is not the gasket,
look for a rubber ring the same size as lid [roughly]
the weight is round, yes.

and if you can not find all the parts for the pc I have read here that a shot glass can be placed upsidedown over the nozzle instead of a weight but without the gasket/seal
you will need to find a new one.
I don't think a rice cooker will work for bird seed, it really needs to be p.c'd to ensure sterilazation

no,
don't think you read that here,
if so
it was extremely bad advice
and whoever gave it
should be flogged.
you will need the proper weight
for the PC to operate correctly and safely.
no short-cuts here,
do so at your own risk.
