there wasn't any growth underneath, and that's something I'd love to change;

try hanging [suspending] the bags in mid-air

The only food is wbs, yes. That's about 3.2L of wbs in either method, 2.5L moistened PC'd verm & .5L m. PC'd coir. I'd prefer to go 50/50 verm/coir, but I'm having a hard time finding coir in the area, and have to ration what I've left.

I prep the wbs similar to popcorn:
1. Load pot with wbs, cover with water & boil 5~15 min
2. strain & rinse
3. repeat step 1 to kill critters
4. remove from heat for a few min., then saranwrap pot & refrigerate overnight
5. remove plastic, boil for 5~15 min again. This is to make straining effective
6. strain for 45 min
7. load jars. If for inoculation, top with lid & tyvek. If to be mixed in bag PC'd, just jar lid. Either method includes 1~2 layers of foil (if foil is torn by nail holes)
8. PC 1 hour. Shake hard an hour after out of PC, tighten bands
9. cool overnight, and either inoculate with spores, spawn, or mix into bag.

I'm not sure how to suspend the bags in my setup at the moment as I'm using standing metal racks...perhaps if I put them in clear plastic bowls...that might encourage pinning everywhere exept the very bottom where moisture might gravitate to... Hanging them does sound effective though...

Thanks folks!

Yield was about 7.5 oz. A 6.2L bag will yield anywhere between 1 & 3 oz. I've increased my yields by doing two harvests per bag; one when many mushies are mature, and another when everyone else in the bag is mature. At first I was harvesting everything at once, including the immature mushies.

6.2 L is made up of 8 500ml colonized wbs jars, estimated to contain 400ml of material (3.2L) and 6 full 500's of verm or coir (3L). I'll soon be out of coir, but I don't think it's signifigant.

I'll definitely be doing more of these, but my next projects are described in Fungi under "Maximized Invitro something something". I expect epic results, and they will be more space & resource efficient than my oven bag method. I'll post results when it happens!

This is the direction I think that home cultivation should go towards. Not necessarily mycobags, but doing away with large bulky and complex items like greenhouses, humidifiers, tubing, timers, rH gauges, ect. Home cultivation can do just as well with simple setups like this. These are the posts I like to see.

i also agree, more trouble than its worth... tubs and a clear plastic bags work great for just about anything.. just have to keep the air exchange up. nice to 'see' ya around HF, it's been tooooo long. hit me up brotha! :)
