i know i've read the answer to this same question before and tried to UTFSE but the keywords bring up practically every post in this forum haha

so it's been 4-5 days after the 2nd dunk and the cakes are fruiting like crazy but one of them in particular looks like it has definite green under the white myc that has gotten more noticeable as the day has progressed. it has a few big fruits that are still growing and the cap has not raised at all yet. the color of their caps seem to be a little dull and not as 'bright' as the cake next to it. there is no green at all on the fruitbodies and the suspected green that i noticed on the cake is nowhere near the fruitbodies. i assume if the green is indeed contamination then i shouldn't print from these but as long as the fruits themselves are no green them let them keep growing then pick them and eat them with no prob? it really sucks b/c the prior flushes sucked and yielded almost nothing, now with this dunk it really has taken off and fruits are coming out like crazy but just my luck the green is setting in. i tried the 'wipe it with a damp q-tip and see if the green rubs off' test and it did not rub off. i've noticed this strain (F+) bruises very green more than blue and thought maybe it was just bruised but it seems to be covering almost one entire side of the cake just under the white. it looks alot like bruising and there's no bad smell it hasn't been touched lately and the pattern it's bruising in is so large of an area

Does kind of sound like bruising, especially if it did'nt wipe off on the Q-tip. Any Pics?

here you go, you can see a really dark spot that's where i tried to rub it off, i tried and nothing came off so i rubbed a little harder just to see. but the whole bottom half looks less white than it did and looks green to me. like i said these things bruise very green (look at the green on the very bottom to see how these bruise, the very bottom was bruised from me handling it a little rough during the last dunk i guess) but i haven't touched it except in that one spot, i've been fanning vigorously perhaps that could explain it if it's not contam?

looks like bruising, but the bruised myc in the vermiculite under one of your cakes looks very green. I see lots of bruising on my casings that look just like that, same with pins that got smashed and have aborted in a greenish blue blob I think your ok.

thanks, i'm really happy to hear that i'll be able to see what this flush does and don't have to stop it early or anything b/c there is a nice cluster on the other side that looks very promising but they're all small still

i almost always get bruising from my dunks because my pot isn't really deep enough so the cakes are pressed aginst the bottom.

so it turns out it was contams after all. i was mistaken, today the green at the bottom was on the outside of the myc so it could no longer be mistaken for bruising. i harvested all the fruits from the cake and put it outside. when i tore it apart i saw that the bottom was completely contamed from the inside-out and trying to make it's way up the cake but only got about half-way and all the fruits were on the top half of the cake too (now i know why, it was the only healthy part). so the fruits look dull and off-colored but no visual sign of contamination. so this leads me to 2 questions:

1) are the harvested fruits ok to eat or are the trash?
2) this cake was in a FC with 2 other cakes, do i need to remove the 2 healthy cakes and completely sterilize the FC then put more perlite back in and put the 2 healthy cakes back in? or is everything ok as is with no sterilization?

1] fine but rinse them off
2] clean everything, that green was mold spores- now everywhere.

Sounds like Trich. The fruit should be fine to eat.

2) this cake was in a FC with 2 other cakes, do i need to remove the 2 healthy cakes and completely sterilize the FC then put more perlite back in and put the 2 healthy cakes back in? or is everything ok as is with no sterilization?

I would temporarily remove the cakes and mist with H2O2 then put the cakes back in. Just keep a close eye on them. Watch for really fluffy white mycelium that starts growing in a circle the size of a pencil eraser. If those specs even get the slightest hint of green, dig them out with a clean sharp knife and squirt the extracted blob with H2O2 before removing to the fuck out of your house (Don't want to drop spores on the way).

Blessings,
Oakchild

I had this happen to me once I thought it was just bruseing my friend said I should Quarantine it so I did I just took a 2L soda bottle and cut the top so it had a hinge put perlite in the bottom taped up the cut and it turned out that it was a contam. In the end I prevented an out break. I find you should just go with your gut instinct and if in doubt quarantine.
