i dreamed of a big ass PESA monotub

the spawn: 5 quarts of PESA wbs, inoculated by g2g with wbs spawn from last grow (from multispore).
the substrate: 20 quarts of oven-pasteurized 1:1:1 verm:coir:worm castings.
i had intended to use compost in the substrate since the compost tea i used for dunking another substrate worked so amazingly (see http://mycotopia.net...html#post624206). however upon going to the shed to obtain compost, i found that the entire top of the compost was covered in gray fuzz.. probably cobweb. :( i need to come up with a better way of storing compost so that it wont contam...
anyway. so that makes ratio 1:4 spawn:substrate.
so here's the picture show ~ ~ ~
8x1/4" holes drilled 6" up from bottom of bleach-cleaned 18 gallon tub (3 on each of long sides, 1 on each of short sides) for air exchange

3x1/4" holes drilled on bottom of one corner for water drainage
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
covered the holes with masking tape (double layer on holes on bottom)
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
heavy duty trash bag lined on bottom of tub, with sides taped up to facilitate dumping in the substrate
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
wbs spawn broken up with alcohol-swabbed spoon
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
substrate dumped into tub (it is actually wetter than it looks in this pic. at field capacity ya know.)
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
crumbled spawn poured on top of substrate and mixed in with latex gloved hands. substrate ends up 5" deep.
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1228376176
edges of trash bag curled inwards over substrate so that when condensation drips down the sides of the tub, it will roll down the outside of the trash bag and not pool on or under the substrate (had a big issue with this last time). THANKS LUCYSD AND SANDMAN FOR THE TRASHBAG TEK :bow:

soooooooo, i plan to leave the air holes covered while the tub sits in a dark warm corner of my closet undisturbed, re-colonizing the substrate. the air holes will be opened once fruiting conditions are initiated. i may or may not stuff polyfil in them. i haven't decided yet. :eusa_thin

well here's a shot at 5 days... looks healthy despite my 5 seconds per day with the lid cracked open for a picture. :space:
oh yeah, i took the tape off the holes too (except bottom) cause sandman told me to. no polyfil/micropore/tyvek.... this scares me a bit but what the heck

my tubs so far have all shown "starburst-like" colonization in the monotubs. it's sweet. i like it.
also, i can't decide what the true benefit of not covering those holes is. maybe it doesn't matter since i'm opening the lid briefly anyway...
masking tape over holes = no contams get in and co2 stays high, but good environment for contams to take hold and spread if they're already inside
open holes = better FAE to quell any contams and less chance of excessive humidity/moisture, but greater chance for a contam to float in, and lower co2
polyfil in holes = best of both worlds; good amount of FAE but the air is somewhat clean by being filtered
so what is a good reason for not stuffing these holes with polyfil???

But really 1/8" holes are too small to be stuffed or filtered. Trust your uncle sandy.

shes ready. Just light, and a fan on low not pointing directly at her. Then sit back and roll a J.
yup, started those conditions last night! also switched the lid to a clear one just so they get a bit more light.
hey sandman i think you're the only one reading my grow log! sorry everyone i'm soo boring  here's some cool pics from my other grow picked tonight (3rd flush off compost tea dunked tub), just to keep y'all entertained. those are my assistant's hands in the 3rd pic... my hands are waaayy to small to hold all those cool clusters.
