Here's a good place for supplies:
http://www.morebeer.com/
I think some folks here use the sanitizing chemicals for their shroom jars and such, but you needn't be quite to cleanly in beer making. Start out w/a stout or "lunch" brown ale - kind of hard to screw them up.

Do Re Mi Beer - by Homer J. Simpson

DOUGH... The stuff that buys me beer.
RAY... The guy that sells me beer.
ME... The guy who drinks the beer
FAR... The distance to my beer.
SO... I think I'll have a beer.
LA... La la la la la la beer.
TEA... No thanks, I'm drinking beer.
That will bring us back to... (Looks into an empty glass) "D'OH!"

Only made home brew once and loved it
it was cheap, plentifull and it got
you there.
I'm now nearly 18 years sober and still miss it,
even 25mins ago my fridge door was open with
3 bottles of bud in it, i said to my wife,
by god one of them would hit my sweet spot right
now.
never again
have you seen the tshirt that says on the front
For Perfect Asshole Add Alcohol........

I've got the old Papazian -
What a great book! Very accessible, written in a
nice, light style... That guy doesn't just brew
beer, he's a funny damn writer. I've used dozens of
his recipies and they've all come out great.

In my house, when I say, "honey, where's the Bible?"
she digs out the Papazian . . .

Not enough good things to say about that book.

"Relax, have a homebrew!"

has anyone had success or failures making a psychedelic beer? if I made beer myself and at bottling put some dried mush in the bottle would it last long or even have any effect?

Sure. The only thing I would worry about is contaminating the beer. Any air bourne yeasts that are on the mushy would start to grow in the beer.

maybe the dried mush powder could be mixed with a little hydrogen peroxide before being added to the wort? dont know if it would kill off wild yeast but worth a try. Let the hydrogen peroxide gas out before adding shrooms to beer?

Very interesting. I think if the alcohol content (%/v) was high enough it would not harbor any ill things, but I'm not positive about this. About how long would the potency last of the zooms does anyone figure?

nope, the alky content would be too high,
the yeast would die off.

it'd be best to prepare your brew fresh for each use
as the magic decays rapidly in aqueous solutions.

Yeah, from what I've read of making psilocybin extract, high proof alcohol is required as the psilocybin breaks down in water, which is why you don't hear about anyone storing mushroom tea for longer than it takes to drink it. Beer/wine never will be above 15% alcohol, maybe 18 for a champaigne, but most beer is more like 5-10% the exact opposite ratio of water to alcohol needed for an effective psilocybin extract.

Ah, but the vinegar yeast feeds on alcohol..........Not only that, yeast will live up to 15%. the only reason the yeast quits growing in beer is the sugar is all consumed. Wine has more sugar to feed on.

um, not exactly
there's plenty of sugar left over in beer after fermentation is done

After going through fermentation, the end result of either sugar or sugars derived from grain being fermented will be alcohol, some unfermentable sugars (carbs), protein, ash, sodium, etc.

I dunno I've stored tea before, only for a month or so but it seems to work alright to me, maybe a little potency loss but I've heard peeps say you can freeze it to make it last longer too.

When yeast runs out of sugar it begins eating itself. I think this is called autolisys? spelling? It is one of the things responsible for bad smelling and skunky beer but it won't hurt you if you drink some :P . I have been thinking of the "shroom brew" some more lately and I think the best way to go would be to make a concentrated alcohol extract or maybe even crystals and add it to the beer with the priming sugar just before botteling. As for adding shroom powder to the wort any airborne yeasts or other nasties could grow in the beer unless you were brewing a high alcohol content beer and even then who knows? It would still take some time for the beer to condition and age to be tastey(a week or two for me, months for beer coniseurs LOL) and I don't know if that amount of time would degrade the magic much or not?
