I think some folks here use the sanitizing chemicals for their shroom jars and such, but you needn't be quite to cleanly in beer making. Start out w/a stout or "lunch" brown ale - kind of hard to screw them up.

DOUGH... The stuff that buys me beer.
RAY... The guy that sells me beer.
ME... The guy who drinks the beer
FAR... The distance to my beer.
SO... I think I'll have a beer.
LA... La la la la la la beer.
TEA... No thanks, I'm drinking beer.
That will bring us back to... (Looks into an empty glass) "D'OH!"

What a great book! Very accessible, written in a
nice, light style... That guy doesn't just brew
beer, he's a funny damn writer. I've used dozens of
his recipies and they've all come out great.
In my house, when I say, "honey, where's the Bible?"
she digs out the Papazian . . .
Not enough good things to say about that book.
"Relax, have a homebrew!"

Any air bourne yeasts that are on the mushy would start to grow in the beer.
nope, the alky content would be too high,
the yeast would die off.

Ah, but the vinegar yeast feeds on alcohol..........Not only that, yeast will live up to 15%. the only reason the yeast quits growing in beer is the sugar is all consumed. Wine has more sugar to feed on.nope, the alky content would be too high,
the yeast would die off.

um, not exactly
there's plenty of sugar left over in beer after fermentation is done
After going through fermentation, the end result of either sugar or sugars derived from grain being fermented will be alcohol, some unfermentable sugars (carbs), protein, ash, sodium, etc.
