Does it seem to offer any advantages to not case the straw trays? I would think that you would get fruits faster without casing, but does it make the flush smaller? I would like to hear your thoughts since youve already done it.

well sand man.. it's kinda hard to tell as neither was cased for the first flush... casings normaly help with a better pin set.. i think the reason the casing above didn't do so well on the second flush is that the casing aborted all the small pins, leaving just the bigger ones to grow through... i like the fact that yes it is quicker, and one more step i don't have to do, but the pin set isn't as good as i think it could be if properly cased...

many do not case straw at all,
the visions laundry basket tek is an example of an uncased straw tek.
but a thin casing layer can be beneficial, if not required
