Oh boy, I love technical debates!
LED current balancing is a good idea in general, and pulse-width modulation is the most efficient way to regulate current.
I'd bet that both units use PWM for the main regulator.
However, regulating the current to individual LEDs in the array doesn't assure that each LED will have the same light output.
And that's not necessary anyway. It's the average light output of the array that's important.
So, I contend that if prosource really is regulating individual LED current, it's a waste of money.
Do you have schematics or literature for the two units for comparison?

I did a little 90w vs 90w experiment-illuminator-349USvs China Factory Tri-band- the prosource outvegged the Shzeng China model over 2 weeks-before the 189US from e-bay ufo half burned out, same with the 660nm red ufo from China Factory-the prosource is still goin strong.I veg with a single China Factory r/b ufo-150US on E-bay auction-no where near the growth of the prosource.I can only go by the quality of product and results I've seen from them.Jesus I dont want to sound like I'm selling shit, but I'll post the link to prosource- communication is outstanding-theyll explain to you, like a person will- but be careful, they are still salesmanithe product in full detail, giving all the tek spec ya need. I've had two advertised 50 watt-actaully 45-stamped on back of cardboard backing- shit the bed on me fro htg supply.I'm sure if ya look you'll find other reputable ufo salesman-but htg supply has left a bad taste in my mouth-and I'm still waiting for a duct flange attachment for a 150w hps, that was supposed to come with the unit over a year ago.

Can't argue with experience.
May be shit quality parts in the cheaper one. That certainly makes a difference, no matter the design.
I'll have to amend my first "equal" statement to include part and assembly quality.
Personally, I've had good luck with HTGs stuff, and their customer service. But everyone's mileage varies.

Anyway, damn nice grow.

yeah, I got boned in one big shot-maybe because I was so excited about it, being my first led project- but in all fairness I may be a little harsh on them, but that almost made me give up on this- I bet alot of folks that are hatin' on leds are doing so because of these panels.I just know they get their stuff from the same division responsible for the China Factory products-these are the no-name knock-offs from the ole mainland. And thank you, stick around

Were those the old LED panels you had trouble with, or their latest UFO-type rig?

They were the 5mm diode panels-thats why I'm being unfair, I mean they coulda found a decent supplier( theres quite a few from my understanding) and the price-tag seems about right-I looked into it after the fitst bashing I gave them here, and couldnt find any meaningful tek specs-but they could easily e-mail them...I'll look into it.

unfortunately, you're not the only led victim.I went through the same shit with an earlier ufo model- nice full veg-growth, popcorn for buds. I was pissed-to say the least.
