A really good market of ours used to fly in crabs from Texas and Louisiana that were massive! They sold them for 60-80 dollars a dozen, depending on the market. I walked in one day and saw a vat of them already steamed and ready to be sold. I almost shit myself because they were incredibly huge! I asked if they tasted any different, because crabs can taste bad if they're caught in funky waters. Anyways, he said "Oh, no!. Grab one and try it out." I couldn't get over the size of this thing. His body had to have been 3 inches thick! I measured one of his claws on my arm and the tip of his claw, from the tip of my middle finger and the other end of the claw was a couple of inches from the inside of my elbow! These crabs were much larger than the 2 I caught off of the dock. They were called, "Texas Monsters". That they were. Hippie, did you ever see any like that down there? They are really pretty crabs too. They have a tan color on their body shell that's really nice looking. Crabs around here are rather dark blue.

I used to visit a friend in New Jersey who kept a boat in a harbor near Sandy Hook IIRC. Who knows if it was legal but I could use a cheezy little kids' net and grab dozens off a metal retaining wall while the friend readied the boat. the crabs grabbed ahold of the wall and were in no hurry to leave when they saw the net.

Here's some I caught this morning. Pretty nice, but no 8 incher's. My uncle said he had 3 whoppers over 8 in his pots, but had already eaten them. I caught these in less then an hour and a half. Sure were tasty!

Here's a neat trap you can cast with a fishing rod.

West coast fishing for Dungeness crabs, minimum size is 6 1/2" across the butt and only males can be kept.

My uncle said they caught a bushel today off of the dock. I'm going to go down there Wednesday morning for some more. I'll post some pics if I have luck.
