just hit that agar for a longer period of time. sneaky little bacteria find agar a good shield. treat both top and bottom sides of the dish.

also.. i can't stress enough! eye protection! very important. an 18-36 watt can cause flashburn in less than a second.

what type of eye protection would be ideal? uv?

yeah. my helmet.. :eusa_shif comes equiped with uv protective safety glass lenses. not only do they work, they can stop a ball bearing impacting at 200 mph. hey, ya never know.

now on to the suit...

so ideally if you fold prints. you would want to just run the uv light over the print after its in a plastic bag. on both sides.

for how long? a few seconds? is that all it takes? im sure these details are on the box.

very cool.

anyone actually do any clean work in front of it. like lets say take clones?

10 seconds exposure is what the manufacturer says.

That's way cool, wonder if you can do some quick zaps
to mess with the DNA of mycelia...

perhaps if it is fairly clear. like the agar any cloudiness can cause issues due to molecular reflectivity. these things are pretty cool, but not perfect. i still pc all my lc's and agar even with it.
plus the larger ones like mine (36watt air conditioning coil irradiator) will pretty much sterilize any air. even moving air at high cfm. most of the time mine spends it's days in an air distribution box that pipes fresh air to my walk in grow chambers. it's on a timer with the fan and comes on any time the fan is on. holds off those late contams a little better.

now this covering the print and zapping.. :eusa_thin ..gives me an idea for agar. maybe if one could block or gaurd live myc on agar any late contams could be dealt with in the same fashion. that would be real nice.

once the foil is sterilized is there any reason the print and the foil couldn't be dropped into the LC jar? does the aluminum defeat germination of the spores into the LC?

no, none i know of...
but you'd want to get the spores off the foil anyway
so why toss in the foil ?

I guessed it would be that much less handling of the foil therefore less risk of contams. and the glass shards would separate the spores from the foil pdq anyway.

thanks for your reply
