I didn't speak a word of it, got around just fine, 90% of the people know some english, enough to do their respective jobs, and most of the civilian types know a decent amount as well.

Deffinitely copy your passport, keep a copy on you, one in your suitcase, and give one to a reletive back home so they can mail it to the embassy should all hell break loose.

Street deals there are just as shady as street deals anywhere else, and best avoided.

But most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Its a safe wonderful place, didnt meet anyone that didnt speak english. About the street peddlers , best thing to do is find a nice chair in a window of a coffee shop and watch the pushers work the crowd while you smoke it up. They arent too obnoxious but they will casualy hit you up as they walk by, just say no thanks and they keep walking. Anti pick pocket rules are in effect, remember they are there and protect your valuables with some good old common sense. There's a large crowd most of the day, and if your going to be there the last weekend of April, you will be there for Queens Day, quite the party, many many many people.
Just remember to smoke one or three for we who are stuck here...........

and see some fun places.......

I am currently living in Amsterdam, and cant seem to get my hands on any supply shops at all that have anything.. I know they exist. I can get spore prints on every corner but no pressure cookers.. blades.. Does anyone know any supply shops in this area?

What more are you looking for ?
A simple cooker/ or gloves..foil can be bought at ''Blokker'' or are you looking for a cooker with a pressure sensor ?
Have you tried the ''golden guide'' ? (gouden gids) in dutch.
the ..what we call an ''Apotheek'' you can buy syringes etc. here...

Yes, I would prefer a PC with a guage. Could you tell me the process of pressure cooking? The flame is constantly on i assume the pot, but its a quite large pot so i assume alot more than one stove top flame would have to be lit? is electrical stove optimal or open flame?

I don't now were you can buy such a cooker with a guage...
I use a normal cooker....
With a normal cooker ,you turn the heater on high till it blows of steam, then you burn the heat all the way down and leave it like this for the next 30-90 minutes !

If you have one with a meter, you do the same thing, only you turn the heater on low till it reaches the right pressure you want..

Open flame or electrical ? open flame is easier, but you can use both.

Got some tix to Amsterdam for a week in a few weeks here...I'm sure I can figure out quite a few things to do, but I was wondering if anyone here had some good suggestions....I don't wanna be the super tourist guy, I wanna check out the neat shit that regular tourists don't see. Not just the coffeeshops either..although it'll be nice to smoke a bunch of hash for a change...gimme some ideas if you've spent some time there folks...:) I've got 5 days, so anything is possible..

I went last june, and it was still a bit nippy. If you're going now, the only things you'll want to do is smoke ;), cuz the shops maintain a nice temp. I had a lot of fun renting a bike (MAC bikes, right next to the train station), and touring the countryside toasted. It's all flat, so my smoker lungs handled nicely... I can reccomend a few nice spots: Voondelpark, and the zoo/planetarium. Check out Abraxis and Baba's paraphenalia store. There is a nifty little handbook to all things smart and green for about 4 Euro at some of the shops (smoker's handbook, or something like that) which is EXTREMELY helpful as far as etiquette and prices go. The coolest thing you can do in the 'Dam is look around on your own. Make sure not to overdose, I wasted a day in a hostel completely shitfaced on philos. stones and Mexicans drawing on the bathroom wall. And no matter how tempting....DON'T bring anything back as they WILL "randomly" search anyone flying from the Netherlands.

(above) It was hilarious...I went to Europe to check out graffics for stencils and left my best work in the bathroom. (symbolism implied)

DON'T go to the Anne Frank museum coming down on shrooms..not a fun experience. Try and see some of the countryside, thats one thing I'm dissapointed that I never did during my stay. And of course visit the smart-shops :hippie:
