Foaf said she has a couple straw logs (2 mini, 1 larger) going, each with a different strain. She has been exposing the logs to light since day one for only a couple minutes each day. Now she has noticed that all the logs are pinning, but they aren't fully colonized. The small logs are really close, but the larger log still has a way to go on the ends.
She is wondering if she should birth now or wait? If she waits for it to finish colonizing, won't the pins start rotting?

You must wait for full colonization or it will contaminate when you birth it.

try cutting slits at the pin site so they can grow thru
yet the log remains mostlty covered

It doesnt look completely colonized, I could be seeing it wrong, but if its not, do not birth it. Just leave it alone until its done colonizing 100%. The pins that grow invitro will be fine until you birth the cake. What strain is that you have there?

Are you incubating in complete darkness? How long has the jar been running and do you know at what temp?

It's not ready to be birthed. Just allow that one to grow invitro and to completely colonize. Looks good IMO. Just let it fill up with fruit and make sure it's 100% colonized before harvesting the fruit....

Like I said, let it be. Not a good idea to birth a cake prematurely, no matter how many pins form. Give it a week after full colonization as you would with any other brf cake. It is not uncommon to see pins in colonizing cakes. Your doing great :)

ya just wait for that jar to finish colonizing, until all of your jars colonize to about 90 percent and give them light together..........you will get more pinning invitro from the addition of light and you could birth and de case all the jars with a great flush of shrooms......dont worry bout thata little one.:) good luck

Hey folks, I've got a jar of b+ that are pinning and only 90% colonized. Is this bad? Any suggestions of what to do?

thats great, you want it to pin before birth, so as soon as its 100% just birth it, then you will have way less waiting for mushrooms, because the pins are already there. Good luck.
