My nephew caught a 24 inch 8 pound largemouth bass last night. typically we catch and release but this beast is being mounted and put on the wall.

has anyone had one mounted? my immediate concern is how to preserve this fish untll we get him to the taxidermist.

I'm guessing the taxidermist will stick it in a freezer until he gets around to doing the work but there must be a right and wrong way to freeze something that needs to look good later.

any ideas?

he's on ice now in a cooler but this can't go on much longer and no taxidermists are answering their phones today.

Wrap the fish in clingfilm and place flat on a board, wrap more c/film
around the fish and the board and freeze asap.
Do not gut,its gonna be repainted
so be sure to show any trophy photos to the taxidermist
for an acurate reproduction.

Bingo. I have a friend who is a top-notch taxidermist and he does just that- works out of "project fish" from a deep freezer.

As I understand it there isn't much of the original fish used- we ate the meat, he used the heads and skins over a "form".

Helluva way to keep plenty of fish around- and the dude really enjoys his life!

Congrats to your nephew- that must have been a moment to remember!
