My Azures and Friscosa cultures were procured a few years ago from a generous member here. Thats three years of chasing jar cultures , contams , G2G's , beds , moves and bed replantings.

Now they've been in place for two seasons and the Friscosa is going off. You guys keep getting me excited about the Azures every time you talk about them !

Its interesting watching the beds fruit. When the first flush is over it looks like that might be it. Awhile goes by and it recovers , then comes a flood of pins again. I'm just at that point now. All the Cyans beds have many new pins coming up everywhere.

Oh goodness yes !

Depending on bed make-up and depth they can fruit for several years. Besides that I add some chips each year on the surface and expand the beds in size.

As Waylitjim says these mushrooms are the gift that keeps on giving. What that means is in a season they keep fruiting and fruiting , but also in the fact that they keep popping up year after year.

The trick is to set it up properly with enough spawn that the beds fruit the same year as planted. No matter what though there will likely be more and denser fruits the second year as the colony matures.

Every fall I try and double the size of my beds by extending them. It just takes some handfuls of colonized chips moved from the sides of the main bed to the new areas and its off and running.

I would say plant some grass seed so they have protection and O2? I have been finding monsters in the tall grass. The fruits should at least get to a point where they flatten at least. It will not hurt anything and is cheap. It is a little harded to cut them out but you know the rewards.

Thanks 1Bad. Planting grass seed on the beds is definitely a good idea.

I see a lot of straw on your pics.
The grass seed will not germinate
if the straw layer is too thick.

Yah NF , that straw was at one time mulch to protect the bed. The next year it composts and gets colonized.

I rearranged and expanded my beds yesterday. I joined two beds that were close to each other and eventually hope to make this into a large circle bed. I topped these beds up with some maple woodchips and a half inch of top soil. They are looking nice.

From the large bed I took what looks like one of the last 1000 gm harvests of the season. There's still some pins and i've got the plastic cover over the bed , but things are winding down ...

My Cyan bed is still fruiting because of the mild
temps, and no frost predicted for the next seven days.

And something is going on in my Azurescens bed...
But I am in doubt if they will mature. It's very late in
the year. But maybe I should also create a little greenhouse...:)

I actually use straw to insulate my grass seed from cold tems, wind and bird from eating them. They should sprout through the grass. Just make sure you spread it around so its not to obvious there is a patch. Unless its on Cyans Private property, LOL.
