Foaf has been working with some pesa isolates. it began from one drop of multispore on popcorn. one kernel was selected and put on agar then selections were made plate to plate for the most rhizomorphic growth. agar to master jars of rye berries and g2g up to 3 generations. the substrate for these monotubs are straw/coir/strawnet/verm with some horse poo and castings. steam sterilized in a 55 gal drum. The two monotubs have no casing and the double tub is cased with coir/verm that was sterilized in a pc in filterpatch bags. foaf makes 1 1/4 inch holes, 3 per side of tub and polyfills. the pictures were taken maybe the 4th or 5th day since the first primordia was noticed. the temp of the room the tubs are in is 71 degrees.

Thank you all for the kind words. heres some details. 6 quarts of rye berry spawn inoculated the 50 and 64 quart monotubs. 8 quarts of rye berry spawn inoculated the dub tub. sometimes foaf mixes spawn and sub together, sometimes foaf does layer spawning, sometime a mix of the 2. the sub depth is anywhere from 3-6 inches depending on the bin used (taller tubs, more substrate depth). the 1st monotub(first 3 pictures) is about 5 inch sub and the 2nd monotub (2nd set of 3 pics) is 3.5 to 4 inch. The dub tub(3rd set of 3 pics) is 6 inches with maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 inch casing. the last pic is pesa p4d2 #1 clone spawn, the tubs are all p2a or p2b. foaf has fruited out the p4d2 isolate but has not fruited out the #1 clone yet. foaf is expanding the clone atm and is on g2. foaf used 2 of the #1 masters to get the ball rolling quicker and has 4 masters left in the fridge.

the tubs haven't changed too much from yesterday as the room temps are at 70 now were a few degrees cooler during the night. the pins that were already there are slightly larger and some more pins formed. foaf will keep taking pictures of the 3 tubs pictured and will update when growth is more evident.

heres a couple pics taken yesterday that should keep you guys tied over till more pinshots. these are examples of tubs that are still colonizing. the first picture is pure straw/rye spawn layered with a layer of straw on top and the 2nd picture is layered but spawn is the top layer. foaf likes the look of the 1st pictured tub better. the mycelium has more upwards momentum, which foaf thinks is a good thing. either way foaf makes sure to cut or rip out stray peices of straw that stick up before fruiting is initiated. both methods have there merits but foaf is leaning towards the layer of sub on top if you have a smooth sub(no straw sticking up an inch off the sub) and topspawning if your sub has high percentage of straw to make the sub flat. what does everyone else mix/lay out there spawn and subs and their top layer and why?

the 2nd tub has just been harvested. my foaf had to tear up the substrate pretty bad because they were growing in thick clusters.
