The coolest thing is that this acacia only arrived from the USA about 300 years ago. And whats even weirder is that this mushroom is absent from the US.
Very strange imo. Anyhow this is a huge mushroom can grow to up to a pound. It has a sweet intoxicating taste and tastes very sweet too. Most of the recepies for this mushroom are for deserts.
Anyhow here are a few pictures of todays hunt.

Well I wouldnt exactly call it potent. The smell and taste is strong, really strong. I have like 200-300 grams now at home and our fridge stinks of truffles. Hell even our milk tastes and smells like truffles.
There are more potent truffles like T. melanosporum which could be descibed as potent. A single slice can flavor a bottle of oil or a dish.
oh boo hoo for kocos! tough life it must be when your amazing dog stocks your fridge with truffles!
lol you know i'm just joking... your posts are always amazing my friend, always a pleasure to read.
good work Bodza!
oh PS... that is a beautiful truffle slicer. you've mentioned it before, but this was the first time i noticed it in a pic. cool gadget!

Sorry its taken this long to reply  Ive been very busy.... HUNTING!
We have had some good days, and a lot of bad days but its all fun and learning.
Ive got a massive amount of pictures from the last few weeks so here is a selection from them!
We did find a good amount, over 2 pounds one day. We also found a new specie Tuber mesentericum which smells like tar! A few specimens were just to bad smelling for the kitchen.
So here is a habitat shot for the T. mesentericum.

Awesome thread Kocos! An amazing journey through Hungarian truffle-land.:)
Thanks man! Now that you bumped the thread up I just had to give it another read and look. Iam actually quite pleased with this one. Not to mention my dog and these lovely mushrooms she found.
Lately we havnt really gone out much to do any hunting. There should still be some underground fungi around like Hymenogaster, Elaphomyces and Tuber brumale. Iam probably going out with a pro this sunday so hopefully Ill have some fresh pics up :)
