went to one of those big bread stores today,
this one was run for Sara Lee brand.
good everyday prices anyway,
like .75 USD a loaf.
but today on the door there was a sign
offering 'animal feed'
ask clerk and
she sold us
200 assorted loaves, pkgs. of bagels, buns, etc.
for a grand total of $7.54 tax paid.
had to sign a form promising not to consume or sell
and releasing SL from any liability, etc.
but still
a pickup load of bread for $15 is a good deal.

Once upon a time, when I had some laying hens, there was a big snowstorm and I couldn't get to the feed store for layer pellets.

Buddy down the street had a freezer full of raisin bread that he gave me. I fed them that bread for 3 days 'til I could get to town and it took 4 more days before they started laying again.

So - careful what you do with it.

not enough protein for a stand-alone food source-
add milk and eggs to get the needed protein
[assuming you get free milk and eggs like i do]
