Bass ale. It's not the best but it beats the hell out of PBR. If I had a Guinness with it I could make a black and tan, one of my favorite beer drinks.

Right now, my 3rd shot of café Cubano from the Cuban place down the street.

I enjoyed a nice old fashioned with some Rittenhouse Rye 100 proof bottled in bond last night.

I recently acquired a taste for good whiskey. It's becoming routine to have a nice something or another at night once we get the baby to sleep. (yeah, I spawned finally) I like my whiskey. My wife likes her wine.

I never have more than 1 at a time though. We don't need that demon running amok.

Congratulations on fulfilling your biological imperative!

I never have more than one at a time either - and NEVER with the same woman - it's a solid guideline to success.

As for brews, I toss the empty in the recycling bin, then yell for one of the fucking kids to get me another goddamn beer from the fridge downstairs .... I'd say "one of MY kids," but that's sort of up in the air, as Father's day in my house is actually Fathers' day, if you follow my punctuational drift, and gets rather confusing, depending on the year and DNA technology.

(Natural Light) - it's not a good beverage, but I'm not a good person (but I'm honest).

Just joking about the kids earlier - we don't have a fridge downstairs.

:)

Does the quote function not work or something?

Yeah it took me long enough to plant the seed. But practice makes perfect.

She started crawling so it's only a matter of time before she can, as you so eloquently put it, get me another fucking beer, (I paraphrase because I apparently can't copy and paste or quote).

Wow Natty light eh. You're not that bad Solly.

Good to see your still roaming the halls here BTW.

Today's remedy elixir is cheap Canadian whiskey on the rocks, with a Flexeril backer. I'm doubt that it will make the dislocated rib in my back go away, but I would be happy just forgetting its there for a little while...

@Soliver, It's good see you back 'ol man. I always enjoy your view of things.

Been running your still lately?

I've got 15 gallons of wash sitting in the lego room ... it's been there for almost five months (ack) - it'll wait - I moved the still to a better spot, but 'still' need to pipe in the spring water, which shouldn't take more than an afternoon, and besides - I prefer to make runs when it's cold out - summer runnin' is just too damn hot.

I've been outta shine for way too long - subsisting on G & T's when the spirits call ... in fact, been wondering about topping the still with a chamber for herbs and maybe taking a violent, ill-meaning stab at DIY gin, but it's hard to work up the gumption when Seagram's comes in a glass half gallon for whatever the old lady pays for it (not too much or I'd hear about it).

I finally switched to light beer after ranting against it for decades.  Once ya go light, there's no point in paying too much, and the Natty L's are actually pretty refreshing once you get past the fact that you're not really drinking 'beer' in the real sense of the word.

:)

So I rigged up a still head on my newly acquired electric brew kettle and took my first stab at some shine.

And not a bad stab I might say. It not great, but I didn't projectile vomit, go blind, or burn a whole in my throat or stomach, and it tastes ok, so, yay!!

I had some lemonade mixed with my experiment about an hour ago. Feelin good.

What did you ferment? It's good for making extracts and I use it for cleaning too I know I'm kind of stating the obvious here but some people forget to utilize free shit sometimes. At least most of the fores and heads... hearts are for consumption and tails go into the next batch. I have an abundance amount of fruit so i end up with peach brandy most ofnnthe time. I haven't drank in awhile ehhh. But when i did it was damn good, and a lot of friends and family still ask for it.

What kind of head did you set up Firerat?  Did you go for a traditional style pot still, or something a little fancier?

I got a Brewer's edge mash and boil that I put a heat exchanger on. Nothing too fancy. My wife gave me this bad boy for my birthday.

I actually piggy backed with some spent beer grains and sugar. I had 3 or 4 batches this way. I used a champagne yeast and freeze distilled for my stripping run as it was easier and I don't have a lot of time to actually run the still. The freeze distilling got it up to about 20%. I froze all 4 batches to get about 5 gallons of 20% and ran that all through the still nice and slow. Came away with a little over a gallon of 130 proof (I think) of meh tasting drink. I watered that down to about 100 proof and really, it's not that bad. Needs work.

The grains help flavor the sugar head....kind of....
