Congrats! But you still owe us the details on everything.

Just started my print, too. But it's pretty messed up with lots of different bacteria and molds. Have to find an area of that 20cm print which might be clean :)

indeed! here's a few more details..

i had little trouble with this print. colima on the other hand was a bit more challenging. :)

substrate = pf style spawn except with millet. spawned to 70% straw, 20% used yerba mate. the final 10% is a mix of mostly coir, cactus soil and just a touch of used coffee grounds. seems to me there was a little verm in there too.. oh! lots of calcium.

colonizing temps = 75-80 deg. F.

fruiting temps = day - 72-78 deg. F. / night - 60-65 deg. F.

RH = 85-92%

FAE = approx. 1 full exchange per hour.

lighting = compact fluro, blue "daylight" spectrum.

time = LOTS! this project was started back in mid November.

the large cap is turning upwards a little now. i think spores may be falling already, but i may wait until tomorrow before i try for a print.

thanks again everyone!

hopefully we can fix that for everyone soon. just landed a real nice print from the first big one :) i'll grab as many as i can so we can get more people growing these asap. it's not much more difficult than semperviva imo.

the next larger pin is gaining in size rapidly and others are following :greenboun

so much thanks to alan and cactu for this beautiful mushroom! and so much thanks to everyone once again

one more pic of the first large one.. the best of the lot. the rest came out blurry. just moving too fast these days. :mistrust:

the next largest pin almost made it. fell over today :( not quite finished, but i may be able to salvage a light print.

these are large heavy fruits. larger than i expected to get anyways. the first one was about 6" tall and this one is a little over 5". both had caps over 2" in diameter.

it really is beautiful. thank you! i like this one a lot. still have get through the first flush.. at least i think. it's hard to say when only a few pins at a time grow to maturity while some smaller pins are popping up. a few have aborted while others seem to almost wait around for me to harvest the larger fruits. then a couple of them grow. it may be difficult to differentiate flushes, but it's early yet.

i still can't get over the size. they are as big as some cubensis and very dense. these might make a great outdoor project for summer.

thanks again!

Really now? I wasnt aware that these could be grown outdoors. Then again why couldnt they.
Perhaps this would be a good candidate to try the following with. Noc up a few thiner logs (10 cm across) and burry them in chips, or just plain soil, maybe sand?
Ive got a print somewhere from the same collection i believe, I may have to try it out.
I would assume that there is no way these can survive the continental winter though...
Once again beautifull mushrooms tco, keep the pics coming!

Nice! Save a specimen for microscopy. There are lots of similar closely related species and this one seems different to me somehow. Excellent work!

thanks! will do. let me know if you want spores or a gill sample.

damn. another one fell over. this one was just a little more mature and larger than the last one that fell. that one left a light print btw. couldn't quite get the color right in the pic, but there it is.

here's a few more pics of how big these are getting. the little deformed one is the smallest fruit yet.

thanks again everyone!

Very nice, TCO! I can't wait to see the second flush. My print appears to be pretty clean, the initial plates I streaked were clean as are the subsequent plates. Agar to grain tomorrow evening! :crazy1:
