Okay so this is still a tek in progress - but the results so far seem promising enough to post.

This tek aims at getting mescaline out of the cactus without using a non-polar solvent.

Requirements :

Hydrochloric acid
Calcium hydroxide
Acetone
Water

Starting from resin.

The resin is mixed with lime and some water to make a paste - this is allowed to react for a while

Acetone is added - stirred or shaken and left for a while

The solution is filtered thru a coffee filter

Hcl is added to the acetone and the precipitate filtered out - if any forms

the acetone(now contaminated with water and hcl) is evapped

http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1265868896

The final resin like product has bands of xtals in it - this is washed with hot acetone

http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1265868896

http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1265868896

http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1265868896

The remaining stuff is dried or picked up with water - then dried - its tan in color and bitter as all hell

http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1265868897

It doesnt smell much if the hot acetone wash is done - that acetone leaves such a stinky product when evapped.

Notes -

Replacing the acetone with ipa may be a good idea and may lead to a cleaner product.

I noticed some of the non mesc alkaloids are hygroscopic in nature as hcl salts - i think separating the mesc from the non mesc - making the non mesc into a solid salt form then combining would be the ultimate purist approach - a dry xtalline mixed pedro extract.

Very Nice Phlux.
Thanks for sharing the tek and all the great pics recently.
Love that cactus.
:cacti:
Mescaline is such a fantastic substance and the cacti are my favorite teacher plant.

Interesting. Has this stuff been assayed for purity?

What does SWIY think about applying Ron's limonene tek to the resin?

id say 33% mesc - it was fun.

the drytek works perfectly with this as you suggested - iv done it many time and am boiling down like 4kg's atm to do almost just that.
salting with hcl is far better tho imo - acetates suck.(and they suck water- hygroscopic)

Very cool. SWIM doesn't perform such things, but a resin --> limonene tek might be a good solution for people who aren't about spending so much on gallons of limonene but still want to keep with the food-safe aspect of the tek. Ron has also said that the acetate is more active for some reason, what other than the hygroscopicity makes you prefer the HCL salt?

yeah doing it with calcium hydroxide and dlimo works well - that wasnt the intention of this tek thos - this tek was to try get fairly pure mesc without the use of a non polar solvent.
i dont particularly like the effects of the acetate, its a bit speedy - quite a number of ppl seem to say that too.
you could alternitavely salt with citric acid - thats foodgrade.

Or carbonated water, that would be food grade also.
