Salvia is utterly fascinating. We must do what we can to prevent youngsters from smoking it in the food court at the mall so that we adults may long continue to experience its wonders.

I broke through totally my first time, with straight leaf. It was one gram in a steamroller with a torch lighter. Fell through the Void, but had no body to fall with so that was weird. Relived every moment of my life, or at least I was strongly compelled to believe that I had. Seeing my entire past at once as being "me" led right into what was apparently an answer to a question I'd been looking into during trips and meditations at the time.
Namely, how does language originate in the brain? I speak a complete sentence that is grammatically correct and can convey a complex abstract idea, but I don't really know the actual words I'm going to use until they are spoken (or typed). So WTF? Where's my speech coming from and if I can't identify the source then who is speaking? Well, The Lady Salvia illuminated an image of what looked exactly like a four-dimensional cross section of a button mushroom, the Shape of Thought. Sensory data goes in the 'stem' and is distributed throughout the spherical membrane that resembles an incurved, immature cap. That membrane consists of every single significant stimulus snared by my senses (sorry). Each unit of sensory input is filtered through the entire membrane (all memory) to become a response unique to it (why I am me and you are you) while simultaneously becoming part of that membrane (memory), a corollary of this is that you can never have the same thought twice. A unique response comes forth from this filtering as a hybrid image/emotion that words are sprinkled on like pachinko balls until the right ones stick in the right places. Like sprinkling glitter on toothpaste as you squeeze it out. There was a little more to it than that, but I think I've said too much already. Anyhow, I reentered my body consciously, uncomfortably. It felt like putting on clothes that were too tight as I returned to Earth.

As soon as I knew what a 'stopwatch' was I hit mine to see Elapsed Time since firing lighter: 4 minutes 34 seconds. Whoa. At ten minutes I was back to baseline. It was stupefying, yet my memory of it is razor sharp, every detail. I was alone, and on a screened-in porch in the woods late at night, so it was essentially totally dark. I think my ego was utterly terrified through the whole experience (put THAT in your membrane) but it had been squashed into a corner by the sheer acceleration force of the trip so I barely noticed.

I bought an ounce three years ago. I have 3/4 left. I have not tried any concentrated extracts; the thought of concentrating what happens to me on straight leaf makes me a little nervous...

I ate some St. John's Wort an hour before another Salvia session and it was just as intense but felt much more comfortable, and this was repeated the few other times I smoked. Just thought I'd throw that anecdote out there in case someone wants to try it themselves.

One last thing: I've been noticing that women do not seem to feel the effects nearly so much as men. Two women I have loaded up to two grams of straight leaf for did not feel the slightest tinge and others I've spoken with also said they got nothing, but nearly every man I know who has smoked it reports definite results. It might be time for a poll? Anyone else notice this, or the opposite?

MMM nice avatar..... :eusa_droo

Sally was fun.... took a big ass bowl of 10X to do the trick, But it was awesome to say the least. I had the distinct feeling that I was being guided. Immediatly after powering down the bowl I felt like here were 2 poeple grabbing my arm saying somehting like "cmon" so i put down teh bong and stpped chatting and my only thought was Oh sorry i gotta go. So i felt back on the bed, first thing after that was a weird feeling i can only describe as candy rainjackets, standing up in the middle of a feild. I Had the feeling there were two beings, 1 on each arm, i knew it was jsut the drug the whole time so my "ghost self" (best way i can describe it i guess) was laughing so hard all i kept thinking was this is sweet, who can i share this wonderful drug with. I could see every action that was going to happen a few seconds before it happened, so it took me a minute to get my bearings before i realized that Oh it was jstu the trip "well im not gonna play along i said" thinking i had it figured out and coud break this "hold" the beings had on me. Well wrong, cause they knew what i was gonna do before i did, so whenever i wanted to do something they were already waiting fro me to do it. I couldnt figure out how to break this pattern so i was confused, then i saw a UFO float down and saw a couple friends of mine in the dream with their own "guides" (i was the only one tripping) and realized "oh, its all good i thought it was jsut the drug, but apprently we are all being enslaved.. i guess i can deal with this for the rest of my life" lol... But without getting into too much detail it was a blast!

Go try it! make sure the room is dark, as soon i got a glimpse of any light I snapped right out of it.

I just got a gram of 10x
I've never tried it
What would be a good amt to start?
I will have a sitter
I think my mindset is ok
I did well on a shroom trip last week
my wife thinks these are too stressful times
for me to be tripping so hard
I have yet to have a what I would call a bad trip
I may be a little aggro later cuz
I lost that trippin feeling now its gone gone gone
like I have to learn to love my normal state again
and it takes awhile
but I don't think I've ever had a negative change in personality
or a violent reaction to drugs
which my wife fears may happen
Despite all the negative trips, living nightmares
people have had with this plant
I have never heard of anyone dying
or any other permanent or long-lasting negative effects
If there are any associated with this plant please let me know
I would also like to find out more about how people
misuse the plant if anyone has some good info
just curious as to how prominent it is, you know
is it really being abused enough to get scheduled?
what exactly are people doing in public
while smoking salvia that gets them in trouble or arrested?
is it illegal to be under the influence of salvia in public?
not that I would do that, just curious
I will continue to research and post what I find myself
on these questions until then any answers
would be greatly appreciated

One thing I discovered about it was I noticed my salvia flashes were just as intense but 'softer' on my mind if I smoked an hour or so after eating some St. John's Wort capsules. Since it was just me, and I tried it with the theory that it might work that way, my results hardly qualify for some new piece of advice to give to everyone. I just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone else wants to try it (and hopefully post results). Might work with 5-HTP or SAM-e as well, on the theory that the freak-out factor was related to serotonin levels.

Frankly, my hardest (and non-St. John's Wort) salvia rush was not in any way unpleasant, but couldn't be described as euphoric or blissful, either. There was no fear, I think because it comes on, peaks, and drops SO fast that you don't have time to freak (or maybe you don't have time to realize you are freaking?).

Ego loss at Waffle House via salvia is why we stay safe and smoke at home; it's kids thinking it's a pot substitute and make public scenes that will get it scheduled. It probably is only still legal because so many people report it as bogus (no effects). In fact, if any 'officials' are reading this, it doesn't do anything for me, either, and the whole thing about it being a trip plant is a big joke we are playing on everyone else.

i'm not entirely sure you'll get the worst case scenario at sage wisdom,
they are pretty biased in the pro camp.
my view is that a person is pretty much capable
of doing anything
while under the influence of sally,
including violence.

i always advise
not only a trip sitter
but one capable of
physically restraining you
should it be necessary.

after reading some I kinda got that they weren't the most unbiased or perfect place for salvia information, though they do provide a shit load of links to research.

they seem a little overpriced on their products, but I do think other vendors should provide disclaimers, warning, dosage suggestions. I don't think it's illegal to sell this stuff for the purpose of smoking, so I don't see why people would just sell this stuff to anyone for a quick buck as some kind of legal 'high' when they could be giving the gov ammo to schedule it besides shear stupidity. At least the one motion to schedule it was kind of forgotten about by the lawmakers.

They do make it seem like a violent reaction was nearly impossible in the catatonic state you're in while having the extreme hallucinations which might provoke such a reaction. I was starting to think my wife might would be a suitable sitter if that were the case. But if I was being forceful, especially if I have an adrenaline surge, she wouldn't be able to stop me.

I am curious about the lower level experiences and will probably try to work my way up. Of course I have no way to accurately measure below .1 g and according to erowid:

Smoked Salvia divinorum Dosages (5x Extract)
Light 1/20 - 1/10 g
Common 1/15 - 1/6 g
Strong 1/8 - 1/4 g

so I would need 1/40 to 1/20 g for that with 10x I think
If I weighed .1 and halved it by sight twice I should have 4 hits appoximately 1/40 g in weight right?

You think a sitter would be in order for such a small dose
mixed with weed probably?

when it comes to smoking sally,
there really is no such thing as a 'lower dose'.
it 's pretty much a
hit-or-miss situation.
you either do not get off
or you get blown away totally,
very little middle ground.
your wife is not
up to the job.
you want a nice strong male friend,
maybe 2 or even 3.
people have assaulted others,
been arrested,
hurt themselves trying to walk.
and it is illegal in some areas,
likely to be scheduled
in more
soon.
you will have no control under sally,
you won't know
who or where you are,
who your friends and family are,
if you can even see them.
your eyes may be open,
but you do not see the real,
only the vision.

thanks for the advice, I will heed.

if sagewisdom is biased then maybe there are cases of extended psychological damage resulting from a salvia trip that I am missing? It seems like an experience so powerful, overwhelming, real, and potentially scary could really screw with some? It seems to me from the reports that some of these experiences could actually be traumatizing to someone unprepared.

i don't know any sally basket-cases,
it wears off fast enough
and few repeat the experience.
proly has a pretty low abuse potential
except among those who've never tried it
or have no access to better [read illegal] drugs.
most i know
try it a few times,
say 'whoa'
and move on.

The good thing is it doesn't last long.
Otherwise it would be more dangerous.
By the time you get in trouble, it's
wearing off, even though it might have
felt like forever.

My last time my whole world was tentacles
but I still managed to take my clothes off,
go through two locked doors and outside
before I realized where I was.

And it's very scary too, at least for me.
Amazing experience, worth it in my opinion,
but completely terrifying.

here is a link to a book by a guy that did lots of experiments with salvia, alone and in combination with other entheogens such as lsd, 2c-b, and he documented each experience. There is some good historical information as well. it says the book is out of print due to the death of the author, so they put the whole thing on the internet for all to read for free.

Salvinorin A Journeys

My own experiments with salvinorin A began in December 1994, following a
highly coincidental meeting with Daniel Siebert. I first learned of
salvinorin A when a copy of The Entheogen Review arrived in the mail
containing Siebert's article. The following day I went to Los Angeles on
business matters and to visit friends, and quite out of the blue was
introduced to Siebert by someone I'd just met that day. The occasion of
this unlikely meeting gave me assurance that I was meant to work with this
powerful entheogen, despite Siebert's numerous reports of those who found
the journey harrowingly unpleasant.

My journeys with salvinorin A (hereafter called salvinorin) are more varied
than those of any other psychedelic I've used, and include both my best and
worst psychedelic journeys. My understanding and the content of these
journeys has evolved with repeated use. Certain ideas and perceptions have
become clearer as I've become familiar with the territory, although the
entire experience still remains largely incomprehensible, and there exists
a feeling of having just stepped over the threshold into an immensely vast
dimension. A description of the general framework of most of my salvinorin
journeys is given below. followed by excerpts of notes from my journeys.
Also presented are reports from other experimenter's journeys, which will
assist in offering a more comprehensive view of the realms available
through Salvia divinorum.

My experiences with salvinorin can be divided into three phases or periods,
the onset, trance, and return. These periods closely match the unfolding of
a smoked DMT experience. Initial effects are felt within 10-20 seconds,
with the peak being reached in another 30 seconds or so. I usually stay at
this peak, in trance, for 3 to 10 minutes, after which there is a 10 to 20
minute decline to baseline. When used with another psychedelic the duration
of a salvinorin experience can be increased several fold.
Salvinorin comes on with an irresistibly powerful, spiraling force which is
much stronger than that felt on any other psychedelic. During the onset I
quickly fall into a trance, while my body feels permeated by "needle-like"
anesthetic sensations. Both of these sensations are quite similar to what I
feel during the onset of smoked N.N. DMT. Within seconds of this first
phase, the salvinorin separates my awareness from my body, similarly to
what occurs with 5-MeO- DMT or Ketamine. Salvinorin is quite distinct from
Ketamine. however, in that like DMT, salvinorin exudes a strongly
life-positive energy, where Ketamine does not necessarily have this
predilection.

Following this, I go on an internal journey while my body is lying down in
trance. My experience. or recollection, of this second phase varies
greatly. Sometimes I perceive the most cosmic, wondrous, and detailed of
universes. while at other times I recallabsolutely nothing- In these moments of recalling nothing, I've often felt as though I only smoked the salvinorin a few moments ago and have retained consciousness the entire time. I then look at a clock and realize five or ten minutes have passed that I can not account for. I've developed a theory for this vast difference in the experiences which I'll discuss later.
The amount of time I spend in the trance, and how high I am upon returning
to bodily awareness, varies with each journey. It seems that I am normally
pulled out of the trance by some type of sound. At home this may be a car
passing by, while out in nature it seems that a bird will chirp or a bug
will fly around my head. In most instances, the sound which pulls me out of
the trance seems like a distraction which is interfering with the
experience. It is not surprising that the Mazatecs recommend that it be
done in quiet. There is a tendency for awareness to lock onto individual
perceptions during the return phase, and for these perceptions to appear to
fill the entire universe. This has been particularly noted by Siebert and
myself when music was being played during the trip. The portion of the
journey immediately following the trance is often the most intense and
leaves the strongest impressions.

While coming out of the trance the bodily anesthetic sensations often
persist, and are stronger when I come out of the trance prematurely. These
feelings can be compared to the "needles and pins" sensation of trying to
move an arm or leg which has fallen asleep. Following one journey I wrote
"I must have willed myself to move, and felt the anesthesia sensations
gripping me firmly, with an almost cutting sensation. It was not exactly
painful. It felt as though I was tightly gripped by millions of sharp
fingernails applying minimal pressure, but if I moved I would be cut to
shreds." This can also be experienced as a "tearing" sensation over the
entire surface of the body. Siebert has described intensified feelings of
this type as "various sensations of motion, or being pulled or twisted by
forces of some kind." On occasion these sensations have been very pleasant,
closer to Pendell's "like soft cat paws pressing, or like a bunch of bird
tongues lapping the mind. Or like tiny fingers, the way ivy fingers reach out to climb a wall..."

The most constant internal experience in my salvinorin journeys is a
drastic shift in my sense of identity and conscious perception. At the
onset of the experience my identity is completely dislodged from
my body and familiar self. Following this I experience myself as existing,
but not as a body, human, or personality. I usually find myself in some
alternate dimension, which can either closely resemble earth, or be
entirely alien. Quite often the worlds visited under the influence of
salvinorin do not obey the laws of physics which we are typically
accustomed to. The action of the forces of gravity and momentum, the
dimension of time, and the geometric construction of these worlds, can be
rather bizarre.

There is also an apparent reduction in boundaries, and the sensation that
my "being" can literally enter and inhabit various objects, including
inanimate ones. There have been numerous reports from people who have had
quite vivid and convincing experiences of becoming objects such as a
dresser drawer. As I begin traversing these unusual dimensions I feel
driven by forces which I don't fully understand, but which I believe to be
influenced by my set and setting. At the point I come out of tile trance,
external reality begins making an imprint on my experience and accelerates
the return to normal awareness. Some of my more interesting journeys are
described below.

1. D.M. Turner- 1.3 mg. salvinorin
2. D.M. Turner - 400 to 800 mcg. salvinorin

Numbers 9 and 10 really got me...wow.
