Hey there homebrewers, heres my award winning Honey Oatmeal Porter. My homebrew was entered by Bell's brewery this july in the commerial category, and took 52nd. out of 197 brewerys, and was judged by the National homebrew association. I am a brewer at Bell's brewery, witch earned me a huge raise.

Honey Oatmeal Porter

2 LBS Crystal malt 120 L

2 LBS Honey malt 20 L
1.5 LBS Flaked oats
6.6 LBS ( 2 Cans Amber malt extract )

1.0 OZ Fuggles hops 4.8 % Alfa acid
1.0 OZ Liberty hops 4.3 % Alfa acid
1 Teaspoon Irish moss
1 Vaniila bean diced .25 Inch
1 teaspoon Gypsum

Steep grains at 152 deg. for 1 hour ( 3 gallons water)
Raise to 170 deg. for 10 mins
sparge grains with 1 gallon water 170 deg.
Heat 1 gallon water in brew kettle and stir in malt extract to dissolve
Add wort to brew kettle and bring to a boil for 60 mins
Add 1.0 OZ Willamette hops 60 mins (bittering hops)
Add 1.0 OZ Fuggles hops 60 mins (bittering hop)
Add .5 OZ Liberty hop 15 mins (aroma hops)
Add 1 teaspoon irish moss 15 mins
Add 1 teaspoon Gypsum
Add .5 OZ liberty hops 1 min (aroma hops)
Cool wort with wort chiller and add to carboy
Add 1 package of safe ale yeast (red pack) when wort is at 70 deg.

Original gravity 1.060
Final gravity 1.012

Add 3/4 cup priming sugar before bottling and let condition for 2 weeks
And as Charlie papazian says (Relax don't worry have a homebrew)
Enjoy this fine porter with a hint of honey, vanilla and a smooth malty finish.

Thanks, it is pretty cool job,I can't complain a bit. 13 years of homebrewing and drinking all that beer, who would have thought I'd make it a career.

Bell's is a GREAT brewery!
Their Oktoberfest this year was out of this world!

Is this Honey Oatmeal Porter available in stores?

No, this is one of my brews that got me the brewing possition at bell's. There was talk that they might do a limmited edition of this beer, but we currently brew 800 some different brews, lots are limmited editions, but who knows, you just might see it the stores.
