4:1 was my sub spawn ratio probably, and it worked fine. You can colonize in any shape you want.

Yep, I have done the exact same thing. I evenly mixed the spawn/substrate mix, then loaded into trash bags. I formed the sub into a ball about the size of a mini basket ball or a cantaloupe, bunched up the bag at the top around a 1" PVC slip fitting, rubber banded it in place, and stuffed the fitting with polyfill.

Greeetings everyone!
I`ll state i`m pretty new to this hobby i had one semi successful harvest last year, I have a question for all your poo lovers out there if you don`t mind giving some advice, i`m not buying manure from stores, there`s a lot of horse charities around and it`s available to collect from their heap, everywhere I`ve looked I`ve been unable to find good clarification on what it needs to look like really, so I`ve taken some pictures of this horse manure for you to look at(lucky you) . It rained a lot so it`s wet but there`s no fresh smell, not much smell at all really, I`m not sure about the shavings and straw you may see in it or the worms? or do you think this is OK to go ahead and pasteurize?
Thanks

does anybody have experience with using a porous pan for a small bulk type grow? I was thinking a shallow plastic tub with lots of holes in the bottom and side and a black loose weave fabric liner like a black food carry bag type material. The idea is to have plenty of air and moisture exposure very breathable no stagnant puddles in the bottom or corner of the tub. This seems much more natural when compared to a plastic or metal tub/tray. Your collective thoughts would be appreciated. Regards mjroom.

last years poop is what should be on your list and if it has been composted that's even better. fresh is no good it is too hot has too much nitrogen in it.Here is a good link to composting horse poo. Chicken scratch is good but its hot also so needs to be composted as well Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, what i'm going to do is build a heap at my allotment to get ready for next year in that case, I went with just verm+coir, hoping it colonizes without problem, I forgot to add some gypsum, any way to add it after colonization? also I have a brf jar with mushrooms growing inside it and the others are not fully colonized, they were supposed to combine for another monotub but not sure what i'll do with this earlier one, maybe i'll just birth it as a cake
