I think I like Leadbelly's version better, I feel it has more soul.  I do think Hicks is a hell of a musician though, but IMO I dont think the banjo lended itself to the song.  Banjo is a bit to fast for for a blues number (IMO)

I just heard this on the radio a few days ago, he used to be one of my favorites when I was just starting to listen to country in the mid-90’s. Here’s a couple more of his songs I liked.

Juthro, you had posted some Roy Clark videos way back in this thread, but the links are all broken. So I looked up some other videos....and damn! He’s good! I knew his name, but didn’t know his music before. He’s fun to watch, looks like he’s having a good time!
