The straw log is pinning like a motherfucker!!!

First grow at the new spot. I have had zero contams since moving everything out of Trich Hell. Just picked flush number five from an invitro Qt. of the same PF Hawaiian isolate that was used to spawn the log. Never even got a third flush in the trich house.

I had a good 6 months of the forest green mold eating ALL of my straw projects and half of my grain projects.

I just want to say thank you.

I'm planning on stealing my friend's digital camera tonight.

Congrats!

Nothing like seeing a large amount of pins and knowing that even if you just get
a single flush, you'll be set for a season ;)

The miracle / circle of life, etc.

I'm working on it Hippie.
I have a digital camera sitting right next to my computer.
Now I just have to find someone with a CF card reader.
My friend lost his data cable long ago.
That Qt. jar just won't stop.
The rye in the Qt. is a mere shadow of it's former self.
The chunk of mycelium has shrunk so much that it looks like it came from a regular mouth half-pint.

You know what's funny about the lack of pictures?
I'm a pro photographer... My sole source of income.

You want 6x4.5cm medium format Kodachrome slides... No problem... But digital... That's another story.

I'm still holding out for Nikon's response to the Canon EOS 20D 8-megapixel.

BTW... It looks like I'll probably be burying my log.
The details are in a fungi thread titled, 'Straw Log in Trouble'.

I managed to construct a card reader from some cannibalized power supplies, and a broken printer.
I can't believe that this thing even turned on.
Anyway... Here's the log right now. You can see my one little wannabe mushroom at the bottom.
Now I need to find some AA batteries because the ones in the camera that I stole from my friend are dead... How inconsiderate of him.

Fear Not!
I'm a taper. I have hundreds of half-used AA's... Somewhere...

I took 8 pictures of the log and this is the best one.
See why I haven't gone digital???

If only I could use my 105mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor....

Alright, the other pic is the log immediately before birthing.

Here ya go Hippie, Flush #5 is in front of the jar.
I haven't weighed them, but they weigh between 3g and 3.5g.

And as you may have spotted, the lone wolf of flush #6!!!
It's visible just under the 'B' of the Ball jar.
The cap never developed, but what the hell... 6 flushes!
I wouldn't have even noticed it if you hadn't said something.
Thanks.
This is a personal record... for invitro ;)

This is my only verm casing second flush Z Strain, the pins came late but alot of them came at the same time. I'm a bit worried because the stems of the mushroom seems kinda dry even though i mist it few times a day and never let my aquarium dry out. Also on the stems it just doesnt seem smooth and its got like a rough woodish* texture on it. Is this normal?
Here's a pic of the casing
This is top view of the aquarium. More detailed picture comming soon, does the casing or the cap look dry at alll?

They look fine. I'd stop misting, always stop misting at the first sign of pins or they will abort!! Too wet can cause split stems if I remember right.

Better a little dry than too wet.

Hey,

Well from a previous thread I had mentioned that some of my B+ starting popping pins and mushies while in the incubation stage.

Last night I took them out of the jar and noticed emmediately that a pin looked a bit green or greenish blue. The more they were in the air, the more of them (pins and baby mushies) appeared to get color.

I read that if you could wash it off it would be contam other wise it was the fruit. Is this correct? I ran water over them nad nothinh came off. IT appeared to be in the flesh of hte fruit, no tsurface or fuzz.

I'm guessing from being squished against the jar is why they discolored from damange? Or are they maybe not good.

Thanks again

If its green its are ole friend Trich. that is bad really really bad. 1 spore of this can kill a whole grow area. Now if its blue that means it bruised from handleing. the blue just means its a P cubensis mushroom. nothing to worry about. just keep it seperate for a few days and keep an eye on it. If you notice it turning more green either toss it or do a bleach dunk.

I thought I read that if it wouldn't wash off it was fine. All the B+ are like this, and I got 6. There mixed in with 2 other cakes now in a gorw chamber. So if it is this Tric, then there all bad? Luckily I still goe 38 more.

But what about this wash/rinse thing heard about. Do you know anything about it?

Also if if is this tric, what are the signs, growth patterns, speed of spreed, do you know?

Thank you

this will answer all of your question. not sure about shit washing off. only verm washes off of mine. the only contams ive ever really got where while still in the jars. Tric can kill a whole grow but not always. id do a bleach dunk on everything if it turns that way but you said there blue so there probaly ok.

Can they get discolored from being squished or compressed in the jar as they try to grow? or maybe beating the jar to loosen it when getting them out?

Very good Link Darkside, thank you . And I did find many posts on it on washing off vs not. I was correct in what I thought. If it washs off or smears it is bad, if it doesnt its part of the fruit from either damage or drying out.

Thanks :)
