Just because you are in a raised bed doesn't mean you aren't using the ground too. Remember roots go deep.

If the roots go deep enough to penetrate the soil below the boundaries of the raised bed, you are doing exactly that using the ground -- i just meant that the very nature of a separated growing area means its harder to give what you use back.

not knocking raised beds by any means, they have their place! just not my thing :horse:

Raised beds rock nice post. A tip for the raised bed gardener alot of municipalities compost call around I get black,black, killer compost for $10.00 dollars a load in my f150 I have them put two huge scoops in then I drive home with my front tires almost coming off the ground.
