rock salt is NaCl that doesn't have crap added to it [unlike iodized tablesalt]?

where can i find rock salt?

grimble-
take your 91% iso and add soem of that rock salt to it, ground up real fine like, then shake it up well and you will see a cloudy lower layer and a clear upper layer: the upper layer is the 99% iso you are looking for.
denatured ethanol is a crap shoot unless you know exactly which formulation you have.

will this technique work for diluted ethanol too [eg vodka]?
could be useful for people that can't find everclear.

why does this work?
is it because NaCl is readily soluble in water and only slightly
soluble in many alcohols? If so, then the major impurity in rubbing
alcohol or in vodka [water] would dissolve the salt, and the
water would become denser and sink to the bottom..
is that why it works, or is there some other reason?
i've never heard of this technique for alcohol distillation, sounds cool.
i wonder how much loss there is though.

I used canning and pickling salt which is salt and nothing else.
It was right beside the rock salt in the baking isle of a grocery store.
It is a much finer grain and I figured it would dissolve easier.
