What up guys, this pickpocket in on some new music called dubstep. Does anyone here listen to it? Its good stuff, if you like dub. So what is it exactly? Its dub, with a trance background and huge swirling bass-lines that people around here love to trip to. Its gotten so big here that they have huge events around here and stuff. Anyways, so its not really known too much how dubstep got started, but its definitely an evolution of british dub. Here's a few links to various types of dubstep. Let me know what you guys think, and for the people who know what it is, feel free to comment in this thread.

Here's an example of some early freestyle dubstep circa 2006.

Here's an example of a heavy, heavy bassline-filled dubstep.

Enjoy, please comment on these and let me know what you think!

When you go to embedd a youtube video do it like this , without the green asterisks ... no spaces where they were either.

[youtube*]SFu2DfPDGeU[*/youtube]

The letters after the = sign are what you want to go in between.

I didn't answer the poll because while I like a little dub step, I'm just not that into it that I would answer "hell yes".

I was at Lightning in Bottle this past weekend and I had a great time. The music was great, but the dub step did get a little repetitive. Not saying "it all sounds alike" but rather I heard the same exact track several times. Dub step is fairly new and a lot of DJs want to spin it but not that much is out there yet so there is seems to be more repetition of tracks. A lot of peeps have really jumped on the band wagon and there aren't that many (at least for the number of folks suddenly spinning Dub step) completely new tracks coming out so I think folks are remixing and playing with a lot of the same tracks and trying to put their spin on it. Once the scene matures and there is a wider variety of tracks I think it will get better.

In general though its a little dark for me to be super into it. I still much prefer trance, world, and break beat, but I dig dub step. It definately appeals to the part of me the would go out to hear industrial music and like to go out to goth clubs so it has a time.

I think Hitler sums it up pretty well....

Some of it's brilliant but it doesn't bounce the party

Pretty hillarious, but ya'll do make some good points. Although there's some out there that sounds more laid back but you know there's all these sub-genres of even dubstep that you can find, just variety and what not. I like dubstep, simply because I like new shit that doesn't fit in the mainstream media like Lady Gaga or Justin bieber (ugh... to both)

Dub step is ok to listen to once, all of the tunes I have heard sound the same.
Just the same noise twisted.
Techno is the greatest, Tribal beats!
At least with techno you can chuck anything into it and it still sounds great.
You could mix the sound of music into it and it would still rip.
Na dub step is one step.

Back in my day we called it "drum and bass" or "jungle".

Same shit, more hip name. Back then I much preferred minimal techno.

Nowdays, I'm on the old americana and folk music, jazz, and alt country (bonnie price billy, jolie holland, iron and wine, etc.)

But what the hell do I know, I'm just an old fart now.

Chrispy is the only artist I really listen to for dubstep... Chrispy does a lot of mainstream music remixes too if that's your thing.

I'm not trolling, flaming or in any way attempting to be a belligerent ass.

But the first time I heard it I got pissed because I thought my speakers where broken.

I must be getting old.

I would rather listen to almost any other genre of music.

And yes, even country.

I'm sure this girl Molly could convince me to like it, but she hasn't tried yet.

Funny thing about dubstep. If you go to a show, you will not find one sober person dancing. I'm not really a fan of music that I have to be on drugs to enjoy.

Ok I voted never heard of it but after listing to it I have heard the music not the name of the music.
I prefer music with words at this point but it's good. I like all types of music I'm happy when the host is happy playing the music they like :)

i think dubstep is badass.
loving the darker stuff and have some genuine admiration for some of those synth patches these guys come up with.

i can agree that it sometimes can sound repetitive but thats what separates the innovative producers from the loop trooper drones. you gotta keep fresh substance injections throughout the tracks.

dubstep reminds me a lot of hiphop. and drum n bass at a half tempo with better drum breaks (sometimes depending on the producer).

i like all sorts of music but im more into dubstep, older underground hiphop and rachmaninov right now. i know, strange combination of taste.

anyway, its good to hear new music forms and electronic musicians are expanding into all sorts of audio goodies.

But then I heard "timestretch" by bassnectar
could definitely get into this on occasion, especially at a festival or something
