Mycrotopia mix rocks. Mycrotopia mix hydrated with castings tea rocks harder. Mycrotopia mix hydrated with EarthJuice + castings tea is the bomb diggity shiznat.

Check it:
http://mycotopia.net...63&d=1145226511

These pics are after 3 days of incubation. On the left "standard" BRF hydrated with water. On the right, Mycrotopia mix hydrated with EarthJuice+Castings. Both sites got 1mL of LC for inoculation. You'll note that not only is the Mycrotopia mix much faster - it produces much more rhizomorphic character.

Any normal variation in spore content, heat, etc. could have caused one jar to go faster than the other. Even if those factors were exactly the same, normal variation could have produced the results (its really a 50/50 crap shoot to see which one is faster of two eh).

I'm not saying that your hypothesis is incorrect. And the growth in the cake on the right looks impressive for only three days, but not unheard of. I think a 10 to 10 jar comparision would prove your point better.

No variation in spore content was possible as these were LC inoculations from a known isolate ("Both sites got 1mL of LC for inoculation"). The LC was shaken quite violently before inoculation, so each jar got a nearly equivalent quantity of mycelia (+/- a few micrograms).

Heat variance is also not relevant, as these were incubated in a sealed container with two computer fans keeping the warmth evenly distributed (heat distribution in this incubator has been VERY exhaustively tested - no hot spots are present).

Only a nutritional variance could be responsible for the Mycrotopia jar's stronger rhizomorphic character.

It is far from a "50/50 crap shoot." These are the median jars of a 6/6 comparison run (6 plain BRF, 6 Mycrotopia). There were two jars that were faster than the one photographed and three that were slower. One of the plain BRFs wasn't even showing growth at all four inoculation sites at 3 days. FOAF could easily have picked the worst BRF and the best Mycrotopia - but to what end? Just so somebody else could run the same experiment and make him look like an ass? Not likely, brother.

The whole run of the Mycrotopia jars is documented with day by day photos in this thread:

http://mycotopia.net...ght=photo essay

Please note, a slower Mycrotopia jar was featured in the photo essay to help keep the newbies using straight BRF from getting too anxious.

FOAF has run a lot of cakes at this point and the Mycrotopia substrate is, hands down, superior in every way to standard BRF.

Hippie3 is a great guy and Mycotopia is a great site, but my FOAF wouldn't fudge experimental data for his own Mother. That kind of stuff ALWAYS returns to bite you in the ass...

well i dont know about all of the rest of you, but ive got faith in hips brf mix. Just a few of the ingredients were added to my mix and it sped up colonization dramatically. If i were to duplicate his recipe i dont doubt would blow the socks off of any other pf style sub ive tried.

A few more pics

First flush off a plastic food tray from smart and final 5 bucks w/ lid. These are great for people who dont want to have huge fc's for casings.

A small fruit from outside where a spent cake was buried in a pot

A few stacked straw cakes, the straw pyramids top contamd so was removed, misted w/ bleach water solution 150:1 and cased w/ some coir. Fruiting wasnt affected too bad. Its a tad too moist in there, one of my timers fucked up royally for about 2 days.

VERY nice work! That tray is showing an impressive flush for such a shallow substrate. Beautiful fruits and great pics too! I love those pins peeking through the underside of the plastic grating!

When is lunch?
