this is how the two grafts are doing. the pedro wasn't rooted when my cat did the graft, and began showing signs of real growth just 2 weeks ago. y'all were a big help, thanks.

it's been almost a year since i did these grafts. the scions have tripled in size. the pedro graft has made 3 pups so far. i've grafted the largest onto another small pedro. the myrtillo graft is just starting to produce some pups, i count 3. they have just begun to split the skin of the lopho. i'm going to let these go for another year then let them grow on their own roots. this year i plan to graft 2 more buttons i have onto a pedro and another myrtillo, the buttons are now about 3 cm.

i don't know about that, i'm just glad these two worked out. i remember being concerned about grafting onto the myrtillo. i can't tell any difference between the growth rates of the two. they really have gotten big compared to the earlier pics in this thread and it's only been 11 months. in another week or so i'm gonna do 2 more buttons and i'll post pix of those here.
this is a picture of the pup i removed from the pedro graft, you can see where i cut it off in the previous picture. it's been almost 2 weeks - i think it "took"

Nice job, I should try grafting one of mine once they root a bit more (so I can hope for pups and a little ring of lophs).
Whats the best grafting stock that my local nursury would cary? Can I pick out just any fast growing columnar cacti?

pardon my ignorance on the subject, but what is the reason for grafting the peyote to the san pedro? Wouldn't it grow if it was planted on its own?

in one year the peyotes tripled in size, prolly would have taken 5 years or more on their own roots.

another benefit is that the grafted lopho will produce several pups which can be rooted or grafted. and the portion left on the root will produce pups also. so from one plant several are possible.
