You need a dehydrator as an option...

dehydrator would be best, although its really just a fan and a grate after you remove the heating element. So i guess fan dry would have to be my answer on this one. I like storing them in canning jars after they are dry, seems to keep the moisture out just fine.

Rheostat controlled heated dehydrator. Measured the temp on the lowest setting before using--even 98 degrees. Not to cold, not too hot. Have used to dry 100+ shrooms in about a day.

Then store in sealed mason jars with silica gel pack taped to the inside of the lid.

foaf uses a 124 qt rubbermade inside it he has a glad container thats about 8 inch square in that he has a metal screen bent in such a way as not to touch the bottom he filled the screen with Damp rid then he made screens by making a frame with 1"x2" lumber and stapled hardware cloth to the frame he also cut out some of the wood so air wold circulate the bottom screens are smaller caws of the glad box but after getting parsed that they fill the whole tub also he has a 4" computer fan moving air around.

After faning them until they are like leather, I put them in a tupperware container with uncooked rice that I have baked for a few minutes to insure the rice is dry. Then I toss the whole thing in the fridge. Makes the mushrooms crispy as a cracker without potency loss.

I use a Jerky Maker. Dry em, grind em, vacuum pack pack and freeze em.

Not to distract the main idea here, but for vacuum stroage I found a link to this site in the archives a while back http://www.pump-n-seal.com/
It looks hokey, but it's perfect for vacuum sealing pints and half pints. For the low price, I believe it was money well spent.

i usually throw all of mine into a large styrofoam cooler and pop a fan on top of one half to allow air to escape. works pretty well. maybe 36 hours if the general air is dry. when i have dessicant it goes faster too.

well after a second thought, it really depends on how long you want to store them.
Long term NEEDS the dessicant.
but i always plan that i wont need them soon

boy do i know how to lie to myself...

Fan then dessicants (dry-rite, damprid, baked epsom salts, whatever) is the best imo.
Fan does stage one quickly, dessicants get 'em cracker dry quite quickly.
