Yep, I'm like Mushit. Dry-Z-Air in a tuperware container with some hardware cloth to make a grid and keep them out of the toxic stuff. It can be done without the fanning or pre-drying but why waste the dessicant.

Food dehydrator with the heating element on a seperate switch. Heat off for mushies, on for other things (fruit, jerky, etc). Once they snap cleanly and crisply, into a pint canning jar with a silica gel packet on the top and bottom.
If they are being stored for any significant length of time, I displace all the air in the jar with CO2. Jars are then wrapped in aluminum foil to keep the light out and stored wherever is handy.

I replaced the heating element in one of those tray stacking food dryers with a computer fan. I checked other because alternate trays, lined with fiberglass window screening, get a batch of dessicant. I use the crystal cat litter and replace it when it starts looking like glass.

Dessicant for small batches unless you've got lots of dessicant...

I work for a computer components company.I get a LOT of silica dessicant beads. What I do is lay the shrooms on a layer of silica beads for about a day to a day and a half. They all dry within that time.At most it takes a day longer if that. All those things you see in shoe boxes that say "Do Not Eat" are 90% of the time silica, works wonders!:rasta:

Think about how many packets of gel they throw away.

You need a dehydrator as an option...
Agreed! Bye far the best method for drying.
