Straw pints...hmmmm...interesting...Anything besides straw in those pints? This does get the mental wheels a turnin'...

Thanks for sharing this, man.

and, I made some straw pint cakes up using some pf cakes as spawn, and some straw to see how they do off of that.

PF Cakes Used As Spawn... Next time, I'm going to try to extend further... Instead of taking 4 half-pint pf-cakes and making 5 straw pints, I shall try to make 6 or 8 pints out of the 4 half-pints.

hey doob, is there a reason why you only use multispore? is it cuz you don't have the resources for isolation? you ever try my isolation tek? :)

Here are some more. This straw pint here, on it's first flush, produced 62.4g wet.

Awesome Dooby! :amazed:
Perhaps a little more detail on how you spawned the BRF to the straw?
Did you mix the BRF with the straw or just put it in the bottom and then add the straw?
Just wondering...:eusa_thin

Sure, no prob.

I took the cakes, busted em up in a ziplock. Then, took my clean containers and sack of clean straw, scooped some crumbled spawn out into the bottom with a sterile spoon, added some straw and packed it in there, some more spawn, some more straw, and some more spawn, and then more straw. That's about it. Kinda layered it in there to let is spread/colonize nice. I took 4 half pint cakes and made those 5 pints with the straw added. I'm pretty sure I could have easily made 6 or 8 pints from them.

The only air holes in those pints were a bunch of tiny holes I made with one tip on some scissors. Maybe between 10-12 holes up top spread around.

Nice job DDD! i have a quick question for you.
if one were to use colonized cakes layered with pasturized straw in fresh new plastic pints, would one have to pc the plastic, or would anti-bacterial and alcohol rubdown be sufficent?

I've never ever done mushrooms, have contemplated it for some time, and having read this thread have come to the conclusion; if/when I do mushrooms, I want them to look like that. hehe.

I wonder, could you tell me what 'multispore' means? If you would like me to start another thread with that question then do say, I'd hate for you to think I was hijacking this thread. I presume it's something to do with crossing two different spores or something?

You're all a very bad influence on me, (but i like it.)

I just washed them good with dawn dish soap. :) I really didn't even think much about that actually cept to get them clean and use clean pints.

Thank you velkrosmaak. :) I appreciate the compliments.

As per your multispore question, multispore just means using many spores (such as a syringe) as opposed to using a cloned culture or some other live tissue. Multispore gives varied results and different mushrooms, because they are coming from many diff spores as opposed to one isolated strain. Multispore can work just fine, as you can see. ;) I dunno if there is another thread about this or not, but I think that should answer your question for you.
