I thought it would be cool for Poets and Lyricists to congregate here and share their works. I'd like to see variety, any sort of Poem or Lyric as long as it's written by you and follows the Mycotopia rules is welcome. One huge stipulation though, everything in this thread cannot be used for commercial or public use without permission of the original Author of the piece. With that said, let's have some Lyrics and Poems! Feel free to question and comment on any works, the Author can choose to explain or not. I know a lot of Poetry is Cryptic, some hold a lot of insight on the Author. With that in mind, boundaries need to be respected. Enjoy!
:teeth:

Devoid:

Sit here inside
Holding this pride
Circling and circling around full tithes
Again
He reads the dark silhouette of a man
Look through eyes
Burning and blind
Looking and looking seeing nothing in sight
Screamed 'We're alive!'
'But he's dead!'
and we all turned our heads
because everyone portrays a vital part of this play
and it goes on, without it's heart
it spins such an intricate weaved storyline
A list of characters, sets, and parts
We're here, and we're there,
We go everywhere
Then we decide depart
Echoing through an empty Auditorium
It goes on and on from the start.

Here's a parody of Folsom Prison Blues that I wrote in 1995 (TV Casualty should like this one):

Fools Some Prison Blues

By Johnny Plastic
1.

I hear the TV hummin'
it's tellin' us again
Ain't no one will be safe
'til we're all in the pen
Stuck in Fools Some Prison
is were we all will be
down at the mall a shoppin'
or watchin' our TV

2.

When I was just a youngster
we learned to think in class
now we zone out by the boob tube
and sit there on our ass
Stuck in Fools Some Prison
where you don't get a clue
and you can't see the number
that they're runnin' on you

Bridge

If we don't bust out of this prison -- if we don't learn to see
It's been GE and Westinghouse -- tellin' us how we should be
Well I know we got it comin' -- if we don't start to know
Mickey Mouse and Rupert Murdock -- are gonna' run our show

3.

I heard somebody tell me
I know I heard it said
It's a free press if you own one
as by the nose we're led
Straight to Fools Some Prison
trapped by our doubts and fears
behind walls of imagination
of social engineers

4.

So, if you're too tired for thinkin'
I say, if you're at a loss
Just relax with your tele
and rest up for your boss
Just forget that Fools Some Prison
hey, that was just a joke
You wont know that you're a lifer
until the day you croak

Bridge

Well, if we escaped from this prison -- if those TV waves were free
They'd be there to serve all people -- just the way it ought to be
Not McWorld, big banks, and Wall Street -- we've had enough of that
It's what's wrong with this picture -- and we can smell the rat

Very nice Alder, I'll have to look into the original too, but I really like this. Definitely well worded and the concept is graspable. Most of my Poems are layered under metaphor and multiple meanings so it's hard to fully understand the point, but this is very well done. Thanks for sharing : )

A Fair Exchange

The last to arrive, unexpected surprise
She came on my birthday, with innocent eyes.
Laughing and playful, her world still so new,
absorbing with wisdom, and we watched as she grew.

Celebrations we share, yet our lives rearranged,
and I felt it was truly a fair exchange.

Wild and outspoken, in her youthful years,
drinking life in, refusing to fear.
Testing and tasting, searching for truth.
She embraced the exotic, felt immortal in youth.

And when fate brought her lovers, her cautions unsaved,
She gave herself fully,
and they took all she gave.
Then the lost and the needy, wanting they came.
To her love, her compassion, like moths drawn to flame.
Some left her babies......
and some only pain.

Unconditional love for her children she gained
Joys for her sorrow, a fair exchange.

With bittersweet memories, and dreams long held in,
she needed an outlet, some way to begin.
So she gathered up imagery, and symbols within,
to a visual history to wear on her skin.

With ink onto needle, expression for pain.
She recorded the chapters, a fair exchange.

Seduced by the darkness, away from the light.
She dances with chaos, candles burn bright.
With rituals ancient, incantations at night,
so desperately hoping, she can make it all right.

Now locked in the spiral, with delusions and fear,
her body's betrayal erodes all held dear'
Doctors who listen, to all she would say,
then give her some pills, and send her away.

Dependence on chemists, to balance her brain,
but not really sure its a fair exchange.

What's become of my sister? How could this be right?
I want to protect her, but she's loosing the fight.
Shunning assistance, adrift in the tide.
She must win this herself, won't swallow her pride.

Late in the Winter, not quite yet Spring,
Too soon for flowers, and the rebirth they bring.
She saw no more options, and decided alone.
to trade in her misery, for peace beneath stone.

Ashes for memory, and an end to her pain.
I love her and miss her, and try to refrain
from wondering why, what could I have changed,
if only that moment, could yet be regained?
And where is the balance between loss and gain?
On a scale in my eyes,
it was no fair exchange......

for my sister,

Forceful truths, that love is a noose
Blindly enforcing shallow the truce
Passing along the legacy of fear
Somehow the suffering accepted a tear

That hedgerow all ancient still holds
Dividing the two more precious than gold
Glory to the one mistaken for the sun
Blurring the lines of grey leaving none

I’ve seen your lies
Justified
The children cried
When freedom died
I’ve lived your lies
Unjustified
Widowed the wives
And wasted their lives

Portrayed as the truth and beaten in youth
Dependent a spirit unbroken and true
Itself knowing a fire steady growing
For ever awake embers still glowing

The riverbed dried through ages of lies
Again full and flowing countless tears cried
Torn from their lives replaced with a strife
Essence untouched by their holy knives

I’ve seen your lies
Justified
The children cried
When freedom died
I’ve lived your lies
Unjustified
Widowed the wives
And wasted their lives

Passing of time we come to realize
Stories made to understand why
Evil the flesh shunning the breast
All that we are prepares for a test

From sorrow and pain distaste for the rain
Without understanding cleansing once again
Darkness and light lost in the fight
Pardoned the spirit chainless the flight

I’ve seen your lies
Justified
The children cried
When freedom died
I’ve lived your lies
Unjustified
Widowed the wives
And wasted their lives

Skywatcher:
That is absolutely beautiful and moving. I can relate a lot to your Sister friend, and I'm sorry you have to watch it happen. It's strange reading this from the outside perspective, I'm sure that's how my family sees me at times, definitely touching. Thank you for sharing it here, beautiful piece. I will share something I have written in some dark times, and then some I have written in positivity.

A Haiku written in a very dark depression:

Solicitude:

Seek out from within
The darkness revealed again
I wish I could feel

and a song I wrote for my Dad. I'm sure he's here on Mycotopia someplace, pretty sure at least. I haven't talked to him in years because Greed and Anger consumed him and his Ego really tainted his perception, but I do love him quite a bit and wish things went differently. I'm sure he's here because he grows his own med bud and used to use psychedelics, but anyways, Dad if you're reading this anytime you'll understand what I'm referring to. I miss you and I hope we both find our way and can make things better.

Father:

If I could return
To a land of imagination
A Place of Instigation
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
To an Inflated Castle Paradise
A Smiling Man with Disconnected Eyes
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
To a silky party made of string
Surrounded by a Circus ring
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
To a Golden Horse that runs Abound
A Playground built upon the Clouds
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return,
To my Kingdom floating in the Sky
A Place where only Angels fly
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
To a Crystal decorated Light room
Where only things like fine perfume
Won't roam
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
To a time where paper carried little sacks
Everything was all detached
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
To a tree where distance knew no bounds
Where water sung such gentle sounds
I would
Wouldn't I?
If I could return
I would
Wouldn't I?
And lose whats lost all over again
Bring myself to another path
I couldn't change a thing
If I could return
I would
Just to hold your hand and help us learn.
I would

Here's to rope swinging over small streams and playing with a beautiful yellow lab in the backyard on summer days.

To Arathu, you are a wordsmith. I am in awe at your ability to express and your talent with words, thank you for sharing your work as well.
Such talent here from everyone. I love these.

I sat in my circle, in my circle I sit,
Recalled the things of fear into it,
Search for the causes and silence the noises,
A dream into nothing yields more,
So a dream into nothing yields more,
Found once again in the layers of time,
What was it he lost and one cannot find?
Yours is like mine is like all of ours kind.
Wonder of symmetry larger the mind?
Dreamed of a vision of a dream
Dreamed of a vision of a dream you see
The sky and earth are one in the tree
In water flows spirit in fire and stone
In air and forest one is never alone
Greatest treasures not cherished until gone
Who will pay heed before it is done?
Dreamed of a vision of a dream
Seated beside the fire next to the fire I sit
Trying and mulling and wondering over it
Of greatest necessity the difficulties fit

Mother
Beneath us all, regardless of thy heart and mind,
Holy Mother Fjörgyn, matron of timeless love,
To you my mind is drawn this holy dawn;
Mother Earth, from whom we spring,
By whom we are nourished,
Into which your children’s bodies return,
Forgive the child of his selfish deeds!
Incestuous penetrations made from greed,
Denial of the link mistook need,
Of self gratifying spilling the seed,
Turned once again in truth to heed!
As the wheel turns in timely cycles,
Your face changes but thy essence remains,
Darkness and light with magic time between,
Though the leaves fall dead in spring come rains
You are remembered still loved and cherished,
Each man has come from your many faces,
From thy moulded flesh made not to perish,
We seek once again the sacred places.
Sister Sunna brings warming light,
Turn and twist weaving the cloth,
Brother Mani watches over the night,
Twist and turn our dreams not lost.
Erda! Erda! Erda! Holy Mother Earth!
See that I do not betray thee!
Guide your children upon the paths,
Even to the stars that long we last!

This is another incredible thread and a peek into each others essence..........which by the way I really do believe are actually one........... Someday I hope things have changed to the point that we can drop our anonymity, necessary and healthy fear of persecution, and come together in a festival or gathering somewhere.......it would be unprecedented! :teeth:

Rise above it all today,
The sea of random noises
Each in its time each in its place,
Some might call them choices
Cannot speak and cannot spell
Do you know the words so well?
Brought to being in someone else’s hell!

I remembered small the child
He was hiding deep inside
Afraid to come and find the light
How bitterly he cried
No more the hurt no more the pain
It matters little on whom it rains
Dreams be found and lost again
I wonder where and I wonder when
Will we still fly as brothers then?

Searching for the answers
How many shall I give?
Created stories fit immediate needs
And convincing feeling while we live
Taught to speak and how to spell
Don’t forget to fear your hell
Ever used it not to express your-self?

I remembered small the child
He was hiding deep inside
Fearing to come and find the light
Embarrassed that he’d cried
No more the hurt no more the pain
It matters little on whom it rains
Dreams be lost and found again
I wonder where and I wonder when
Will we still fly as brothers then?

Sun bursts forth the clouded sky
Tears and raindrops one and the same
Fallen to earth back home once more
Moist mother of all just takes the pain
Now I speak and how to spell
Drawing on the depths of hell
And a singing in the freedom bell!

I'll see some of you someday. I believe that full heartedly. I'm a musician, I love travelling, I want to get into herbal medicines and street shops and entrepreneurship, I'm sure you'll find me sometime. I don't plan to be too anonymous and I know many of my ideas will reach the world if done properly. Until then friends, more poems! : D

Written after an intense breakthrough experience with Psilo:

Memories regarded
Past days remembered
Do you see?
Can you?
Tugging this heart
Weakening this breath
Hurts so much, such voids
Unimaginable, unreal
Falling fast
Ascending from below
Catch me
Surround me
Envelop me with warmth
Save me from myself
Save them from me
The world so dark
So frightening
So impure
Seen so differently
Calling out
Safety
Wrapped within complexity
Content with calamity
Let me protect you
Guide you home

Trying to read much in the way of poetry really drives home to me the fact of my dyslexia. It almost hurts, trying to read verse. It gets all run together and the cadences are never right it seems. I feel that I destroy the poetry I read.

Because I never really read at all growing up, and then in my twentieth year, achieving the minimal skill to read a complete book, given a month or so, the stuff I read was non-fiction, to get a payoff for all that work.

So, my poems are rewrites of songs. The poetry I consumed was when someone would sing me their poems. I guess I'm an orally and audibly informed person. My writing skills in prose are the result of a hyper life of talking way too much. I love to flip words around and see how they hang together and sound. This makes me a terrible listener.

I love folky singer/songwriters. I need the lyrics out front. I am also the audio version of dyslexic (don't know the word for that). When the "wall of sound" took over pop music, I quit listening. You could say that I'm stuck in the '60s.

============================

Here's a parody of Desperado:

Corporado
By The Vultures
1.

Corporado
you'd better watch what your doin'
or you will bring us all to ruin
before too long

Your bottom liners
your clearcut loggers and heap leach miners
your engineers and designers
could get it all so wrong

Well, don't you buy into the gold and diamonds boy
that deal is with the devil
The path with heart will fill your deepest need

Now, did God make the mountains green and tall
for us to make 'em bare and level?
We must understand, we create our own greed

2.

Corporado
we all breath by the same grace
you'd better let down your game face
and get yourself real

Can you rise up
break free of your denying
and see all that is dying
beneath your wheel

Well, don't you love to play Monopoly?
you've got hotels all around the table
You're havin' so much fun that you just forget to see

That you've got hired guns to make us play your game
just as long as we are able
When you've got it all will you finally set us free???

3.

Corporado
you'd best realize your power
will you bring our final hour
with the next dawn?

It is within you
to serve a higher calling
and stop that axe from falling
all our hope gone

Will you serve all life or mammon now
when the judgement is upon us?
In this final ticking of the eleventh hour

You're gonna push your camel through the needle's eye?
it seems you're bound to take it with you
When all the fruit you hoarded long ago went sour

4.

Corporado
it's not right to put us through this
You say someone else would do this
it's just our fate

It wont be easy
try to start sympathizing
And stop rationalizing
Stop your rationalizing
Before it's too late

So here is a short exploration of that semi-conscious void between waking thought, and the dreamless deep.

Leaves on Water

A quiet stillness lies, on the face of the water deep.
A depthless mirror reflection,
that defines the above, and beneath.

And golden leaves they fall, upon this unmarred glass.
In time they slowly sink, beneath the glass they pass.

Leaves on the water, dark and deep.
They float above, beneath they sleep.

No breeze, So silent here,
and drifting slowly down,
wrapped in the fluid darkness, suspended with no ground.

Here the deep currents flow, unchanneled, timeless and slow.
Sinuous motion enwraps. No time, no direction, to know.

Leaves on the water, dark and deep.
They float above, beneath they sleep.
Leaves on the water, amber and gold,
the depths will embrace them, and gently enfold.

Again............Excellent! That captures the time in between very well, I find that place to be of great value in seeking, short but sweet. First consciousness, before the streams of thought and words, pure awareness.
