thanks wednesday-
she noticed the same thing;
the jars that are more complete
the mycelium doesn't appear as strong/healthy
-though i'm sure these ones will fill in
the ones with only some mycelium
are bright white in those spots
(and she's hoping that mycelium spreads eventually, as you said)

it may eventually finish up 100%
but that's going to take quite awhile.
i'd just re-inoculate the barren sectors
much faster

good call hip :)

...what happens if you use two different strains in the same jar?
i'm sure it's been done?..

from what i have read one will dominate the other for the most part
i believe there is a chance for a hybrid but unlikely? not positive

True, but strains can also grow side by side. An obvious strain cross would be rare indeed. I have heard of dikaryon pairings but I am still finding little data as to how much if any dna changes are made by such a mating.

If the jar was too wet/dry/contaminated to grow in the first place, more spores won't help...

the pics are on the previous page,
i think it's jar#1 -
it's got bright white mycelium on one side,
and the other side is just un-changed sterile substrate.

it was pointed out that this could be the result of not shaking the syringe-
so all or most of the spores went in one innoc hole,
and the rest of the injections may have been mostly just water.

she's just worried that she'll end up with cake(s) consiting of 1/4 mycelium
and have to wait for the rest to catch up
(which hip says might take a bit long)

can't give enough THANKS and PRAISE to this helpful community.

I've made the same mistake before. If the jar's are sterilized properly, they will colonize fine. Don't worry.

thanks for the support guys-
been doing my best to sort of ignore them
just because growth has been somewhat slow/stalled-
but she said she'll get some more pics soon,
since it's been a more than a few days.

Why did you choose Dixie for invitro? Is that a good strain for invitro?

Yarrrrrrrrrr, the dixies are still a pretty new/wild strain. Although I have had some go invitro in rye grain jars they have really not been proven to be good invitro performers. If you get a few clone them and you will have a good invitro performer. :)

dixie wasn't her first choice.
was sent to her because the vendor ran out of her first choice.
we'll see - good experiment anyway,
i would think they should be able to grow invitro...

pics on the way.
seriously.
