What kind of games?

I've been developing one that's basically about the journey from negativity to positivity and how little things can affect a lot around a person. It's really open ended so the story can really apply to anyone's life and hopefully instill hope to people going through conflict, or just give them something to take the edge off, kick back, and have fun. It's a five level short game, and I'm developing it as an indie team with a Programmer, and an Artist. I haven't seen many indie games take the approach I am by integrating a whole bunch of different multimedia types to make it a whole. Really focusing on Art and keeping it as open ended and loose as possible.

https://mycotopia.ne...p-our-home.html

That's it's thread, and it's posted at top to keep updates coming in and allow people to find it. Mrs. H3 and I talked about it.

I really hope this place isn't getting traded off. I'm sure a lot of members within this forum would do great with it if they were given the chance. If I remember correctly, a lot of the people who have been off of the forum for awhile are off because they clashed. I'd hate to see this place completely change, that's why I want to do what I can to help keep it kicking. I'm not rich by any means, but if my projects can help me out, they can help mycotopia out. I owe it to you all, to this community. If it wasn't for this place, that negativity that held me down, the depression I have, I'd be dead, it would have taken over. The community and love here has helped me immensely and though I still struggle, this place holds a very special place in my heart and I always feel close.

My issue is , I have no idea myself. I made this thread independent of that statement from Zen , but knowing full well for some time that the site was needing better fund-raising to pay the basic bills. It's user-supported. There has been a slow-down in member-initiated fundraising, mostly due to lack of talking about.

Zen's post is a major wake up call.

The business August brought up is news to me , but I have been busy with life stuff all summer , as I'm sure many others were to. It's still hearsay and rumour.

Mycotopia will live on some how , some way , no matter who is at the helm I suspect , but regardless it will take support and effort to maintain the monster we have created.

Watch for the signs , speak up , give a hand.

I've read the ideas so far, and I need to make a comment.
I as so many others, I lurked here for quite a while before I became a member. My reason to become a member was to gain the ability to ask questions.

I would have gladly paid a membership fee for that privilege.

One of the first things I ever did here, was ask for anyone who would be willing to be my mentor for help with cactus. The generous community response to that request awed me, and began one of the best friendships I have, and the beginning of many more friendships here that by far exceeded any expectations that I came in with.
To only read the archives and posts is good for research, but to have the ability to communicate and exchange ideas and receive the advise of the more experienced here is a privilege. IMO I think asking for a donation for that privilege is not unfair, and would be accepted.
In truth i have grown more in knowledge and spirit in 1 year here than i ever could have known, and there is no way to put a value in dollars on that.
I became VIP to support this site, because i cannot imagine not doing so.

But offer 3 mos for 10. Also vip should be cash money. Then host print drives for the site giveaways. 3 mos for 10 should rasie a lot of money. Honestly. I would of went vip earlier if I could of tested out vip for less. Cause now I dont want to be yellow again and lose chat.

Operation Save Mycotopia?

Whose willing to upgrade to VIP and/or make a donation to help keep the site running?

Myself, and L2G if he will allow me to talk for him have both had problems with the online payment for ViP. I have a post card ready to go, but I keep taking the $$$ out for food, and those other important things. However, word of mouth, L2G told me, I told 3 others (whom sadly are inactive, but have nevertheless joined as members). Posters and bumper stickers are good to encourage word of mouth, which is a very effective PR method.

How about a book? The Mycotopia, complete noob guide to cultivating your first strain. Lets see them hack that!

Lotz people can do pay pal. You can do that with a check. I have said this before but need more sub forums in magic fungi. To attract varity of growers maybe even aviod some conflict. I just think we need to do more with what got.

It's often hard for a small-time operator to be able to receive cred card payments or pay/pal , not impossible , but hard.

If at all possible in the meantime it would be good if people could pay in whatever form is most conveniently cashable. I'll check on what those ways are and get back to you.

I've had to use paypal once, from many international purchases. The system topia has seems fine, but somehow doesn't accept cards from all countries. This has nothing to do with paypal, I don't own a cheque book, and i'm not sending NZ $100 across the Pacific!!

Help youselves to help yourselves is what i'm saying

Everytime I hear that, I want to answer random questions with that phrase for weeks afterwards. Usually the weirdest shit too. I saw it once, that was enough. Wonderful clip. The truth in this case will be pretty difficult to handle though if Mycotopia doesn't get help I'm sure.

No worries. It's going to be fine. Different, but fine.

This is a sticky situation. The only way to NOT use a card is to send check or money order to topia address - unfortunately that cannot be tracked and who knows if it's ever received, lost, etc. Pre-paid cards are an option as the merchant provider will accept those. Unfortunately foreign cards cannot be accepted due to the high potential for fraud. We constantly try to balance ease v.s. tracking ability but alas in most cases our hands are tied.

I would have gladly paid a membership fee for that privilege.

We have been trying to work out different VIP levels with different access rights to various board functionality, this however must come at a price. As it has always been non-registered members have most functionality but cannot post... Registered members have the rest... This means that in order to break up that functionality and have 2 or more levels of paid membership we have to take away access that people have enjoyed for so many years. Then there is add-on functionality via plug-ins such as the game center, chat, and what nots -- the issue with these are that they open the board to potential exploitation, which we're all too familiar with, and they are not necessarily updated as often as they should be, if at all, and when it comes time to upgrade the software we find a bunch of add-on plug-ins must be uninstalled due to incompatibility issues. AND Since the board receives daily hack attempts we must always remain on the latest versions.

So as you can see it's quite complicated as to what to allow, what to install, and what to not. If we decide to install fun toys and add-on functionality we risk losing it later (which pisses people off) due to an upgrade/compatibility issue. We also risk losing sight of the nature of this community which is, well, community. This site is and always has been a bulletin board to discuss and share ideas - when we start adding games, chat, or anything else that doesn't directly bring people together to collaborate I feel we lose a little more of the original intent.

I do not disagree with this, however, that level of information must come from mrs.hip directly - anything else is hearsay. Being the most plugged in here I have heard nothing of the sort.

This is true, but there is a reason we do not use PayPal. 1) They are not a bank and do not have to follow banking rules. 2) They have shut us down many many many times in the past due to site content, products offered, et al. Each time this occurs you cannot use the same bank account to sign up for a new account. PITA. 3) If they decide to shut you down your money is LOCKED in their system for 6 months BEFORE you can withdraw it. So that poses a huge risk.

We may try PayPal again from a purely donation standpoint, but I am leery due to the past experiences with them and how they can keep you from your money on a whim.

This is exactly the reason we need a system that uses PayPal as per above we cannot accept foreign cards. However, we have the other issues with the per the above.

All - rest assured we are actively discussing things but it's a very complex environment to navigate. We will keep you posted as more info becomes available.

Is there a way to donate a some odd amounts like $7.32 via CC? I ask because I have a couple prepaid VISA cards with odd amounts on them that should have a good home.. I can't think of a better home than Topia.

Because I have bad short term memory and other issues, I've never had a credit card or a checkbook in my 65+ years. But I managed to get myself purple. And I've always been kind of poor, financially.

Not doing it because it's not handy ain't much of an excuse.

you don't want to get involved with paypal when it comes to a site like this. If they deem it is drug oriented then they will seize the account, it's in their contract.
