Anyone have advice on how to treat fungus nats on woodlover spawn?

Why wouldn't Baccilus thuringiensis work? You may want to try Microbe-Lift BMC. While it is a bacteria, maybe the wood lovers can tolerate it. It may be worth a try. 1/2 ml per gallon of water. Add every 3 days. I would mix it up fresh for every application, and lightly mist with it maybe. It's a specific bacteria engineered to disrupt mosquito larvae, and fungus gnat larvae. It works in their guts by stopping them from eating. Thus dead bug. You'd have to look into fungus gnat life cycles to know exactly how long to apply it.

Beautiful pictures arathu. Very very nice

4FA093E2-E343-4122-A5AE-1A98150B75A1.jpeg I saw someone grow out of an egg here and thought it was brilliant. Anyway this aztecorum I just cased and it’s sitting in my fridge at the moment.

A7E1E371-92B9-4756-8042-D0B523F27EC2.jpeg an ovoid mini mono. I put moss seeds in it and they sprouted but there’s also rhizos everywhere all over the casing like white zombie hand crawling up.

CBBDB338-E7E3-4BB5-8D4B-5027ABFF6C1E.jpeg here’s my cyanescens mini mono. Not nearly as vigorous as any of the others but still looks fine.it came from a 4lb bulk bag and it’s recovering.

I cased all of them when I broke them down and I think that was a good idea. I have a sub shoebox that colonized the whole casing while recovering. My subseco bag is finished as well but I’m thinking about putting that one through a period of straight cold for a couple weeks before cutting off the top and casing.

The fastest by far has been the aztecorum. Super vigorous and strong and quick recovery as well. All around great species. Don’t know why this one isn’t researched more. Also there wasn’t a colony on the germ plate that didn’t look amazing.

Also the ovoid was a close second. But the cyanescens was great on the wood too. The subaeruginosa though probably looks the strongest right now in the shoebox. Solid white07820E83-13DC-41EE-9478-2134C8D2A85C.jpeg

Wood lovers are just super easy to work with it’s just a shame we haven’t figured out more about them. I’m learning more and more as I go though and whatever I find I’ll try to share.

I have sone Gym Purp that was put to some overly wet grain.  The fastest jar went to a sub in a bag.  The slower ones I would like to put to a nonsterile test.  Maybe eggar, cardboard, or straight to oak litter from my yard.  I have a lot of oak in every state of decay so that is preferred.  Can someone point me to a condensed tek or process to take colonized grain to nonsterile expansion?

- Get corrugated cardboard, peel off the outer waxy layers and keep the middle part

- Moisten the cardboard, put some of your spawn on it, keep it in a tub for humidity

- Once the mycelium is colonizing the cardboard add wood chips/rotting wood on top - I've had good luck doing this without sterilizing or pasteurizing as long as I don't add much material at a time, or you can pasteurize

- Keep building it up until it's enough

Damn does allenii like subs that aren’t solely wood last time I made a bag it had a hard time colonizing I couldnt tell if it was a digestion issue or too wet of a sub or what.

One of my Allenii jars has 20%? verm, the other jar and bag have 10%? cacti soil. Allenii for me has been very forgiving and grows over contamination, eats cardboard and any kind of wood.

So, these bags of Allenii and Ovoids were open air spawned to bulk and placed in tubs.

https://mycotopia.ne...89#entry1460800

Within days, I had cobweb and Mean Joe Green. :(

The Ovoids were totally forked. In a pot, I dumped the mix in between two pieces of cardboard, added some damp sawdust and small bark chips on top of the cardboard then stuck it out of the way. It gets a little sprinkler over spray, maybe I'll get lucky?

The Allenii, was not as bad. I scraped off the funk and placed the tub outside in a mini greenhouse set up I use for propagating seedlings and cuttings. It is a plastic shelf with PVC frame covered in clear plastic and heavy shade cloth. Here is the Allenii now!

Cover that with a light casing of potting soil and fairly thick layer of grass clippings and get into the shade.......

Keep it slightly dampened......

And pray......

It's definitely not unheard of to see chips recover....

Also quite possible for sure......
