Inoculated 12 jars with BRF substrate on Saturday, May 20th, 2006.
Checked on Thursday, May 25th - took a little while for visible growth to appear - but small spots are in every jar now.
Checked on Saturday, May 27th. Been incubating at 85 degrees with the help of a chamber containing water and a fish tank heater - growing very fast with no signs of contaminates.
Checked on Saturday, June 3rd. Continued incubation at 85 degrees - all jars are 90-95% colonized.
100% colonized as of June 6th.
4 birthed and dunked on June 15th.
8 remaining birthed (not dunked) on June 18th.
Not enough quart jars - so four 1/2 pint cakes were double cased and stacked in two 1/2 gallon jars (to maintain approximately the same ratio of filled:empty space by volume as original Chronic Tek). One extra cake was placed in a 1 pint jar to see how it does.
Four 1/8" holes were still poked in the lids of both 1/2 gallon jars and the 1 pint jar, just like with the quart jars.
Pictures taken of pinning today - a little over a week after they were birthed. All were cased - only four were predunked due to an already high moisture content upon removal from incubation jars. Pinning is strong, one is forming pins all over the top of the casing (making it look like it snowed on the vermiculite).
Mycelium is much more aggressive than with the Amazons, although pinning on Tapalpa does not seem to occur as quickly at approximately equal RH and temperature levels.
There's also much more fluffly mycelium at the same RH levels. Both types seem to like to form pins most on moist, low nutrient surfaces (e.g. damp vermiculite or a piece of wet straw on the side of a glass container).

my friend just sent me a post card with a question for you guys:
his PF cakes are about ready to be transfered to larger jars for a cronic tek invitro. he has just realized that he does not have enough lid caps for all the bigger jars! he does have enough of the rings though and was wondering if he could use a circle of postal tyvek only, screwed down by the ring. or if that would cause to much/little air exchange.
otherwise, just standard 4 holes a la PF tek should be used correct?

Should work just fine, the more air exchange the better. The oly thing your goiing to have to worry about is supporting the weight of the cake and not letting the teyvek get wet.

hmm how to keep it from getting wet in that situation? the cake would be resting directly on it.
or would it be cool to have them 'upside-down' (lids on top) to keep the tyvek dry?

Bad idea. Tyvek breathes quite easily. Your cakes will dry out very quickly with a tyvek lid.
You COULD use a Tyvek lid and cover %95 of it with duct tape, however.
You could also use aluminum foil held in place by a rings (poke a few little holes for air exchange).

yea thats what i was worried about Buck.
I had fist planned on tinfoil actually, but was worried it would rip through. i guess a handfull of layers would do the trick yea?
