Did they naturalize in the area or did the patch die after the first year?

I'm looking to cultivate these this year, this species needs protection and appreciation. I'm getting some agar from fungi.com and will go hunting this weekend for some specimens.

Will try various methods, agar with spores and with mycellium/mushroom tissue, stem butts in cardboard and with grain inoculation. The ultimate goal is to make a patch where they will grow.

Will post my results when I have any.

I'm up further North in N.Z, In Auckland, and have found a couple of different places that these grow in a only a couple of hunting missions.

I don't think they are that rare... Just hard to spot. :eusa_shif

There is another strain that is similar looking to the Weraroa...It's thought to be new and has not been officially named, but N.Z shroom(ery) experts are calling them "Psilocybe Subsectodies"

Here is a photo. Weraroas in the top, Psilocybe Subaeruginosa on the right, and the "Psilocybe Subsectodies" down the bottom left. And a big haul pic on the right.
They have been "popping up everywhere" this season though.

Will check to see if any threads on these, if not, I will start one. Hopefully there are some kiwi brothers and sisters representing here already.:eusa_danc

Holy Doodles ... MissMatch !

That is so awesome. We have been waiting years for you to come along with those pics.

Great find.

Perhaps you could email or PM workman with a spore sample or information. It would be great to see this species back on shelves and being spread around the planet.

Cheers & thanks.
