Beautiful? Gorgeous? Amazing? Or maybe just damn cool?

All most makes me homesick for PNW Alder. I'm going with Beautiful.

And so, today is just another shitty day in paradise.  I thought I'd try to snap that same vantage on a very wet day and see what it looked like.  Even though that old pic is cropped to a more panoramic frame, I could not get the angle wide enough in the viewfinder.  It finally hit me, that I must have taken that pic with my cheap old Samsung camera.  So, after putting some batteries in it, I tried again.  So, if I can get something uploaded here, this is that same view without the cropping.  Got the rain gutter spilling in there too.

I just got word we are under flood watch.

Alder,

seeing that second pic makes me think the first should be printed in black and white. it has some strong lines and lots of contrast

Say hello to Mrs Moose, (or as WildE tells me, "The Swamp Donkey") as she is hanging out on the edge of our frozen and snow covered lake.

Here is a link to the legend of Sleeping Lady
http://www.spack.org...eepinglady.html

And here are some pics, but from my angle your looking at the head from across the Cook Inlet. It is harder to get the visualization that it is a lady laying down. As seen across the inlet from Anchorage it is easier to picture this visualization.

I took these pics today about noon from the hill over looking the deep water port of Nikiski AK, it was 6*F outside, and you can see plenty of sea ice out in the inlet. But it was an absolutely beautiful day if you were dressed for it.

Panning to the left a little you can see the deep water dock and some of other mountains on the far side of the inlet, about 7 miles across here if I remember correctly. If you look close you can see some of the gas platforms close to the far shore in this pic.

As always, I hope you enjoy the pics.

The ducks are back, I didn't expect them quite this early. I think they wish the lake was more open then it is, but they have a little open water to swim in.

The weather has been shit all week, but I've been sick so it didn't mean much to me anway. We had a pretty good snow flurry this morning that dropped a couple of inches, though it has pretty much all melted off now. But the birds are definitely migrating through. We had a couple of transients stop by this afternoon that I was happy to see. Mr. and Mrs. Trumpeter Swan, damn they are big birds. I have yet to have any stay and nest here, but I do enjoy seeing them stop by for a rest and a snack.

I am a lucky man, I've been so sick most of this last week that I haven't been out of bed for much more time then it takes to eat some soup or go to the bathroom. But I was still able to see and take these pictures with out ever having to leave the house, or even put on pants for that matter.

Sorry to hear you have been so sick Juthro. Probably one of those times you are glad you opted for the indoor bathroom......

Great pictures as always. Have you considered a video cam utube show? "The World outside Juthro's Window"

Feel better.............................................

Thank you for the well wishes friend. And you are so correct about the value of indoor plumbing, lol. It's been quite a long time since a bug has gotten me this run down, but I am on the up swing, though it has been a rough week. My biggest problem has been staying hydrated, I was afraid I might have to go in for an IV there for a bit, but like I said, I seem to have come around the bend, and am headed back to situation normal. And I still got to enjoy the show out the window, so it wasn't all bad.

No worries TCO, I know you better than that my brother. It's all good, and the whole "Swamp Donkey" thing is pretty damn funny IMHO, though I do have to give full credit for that to WildE.  Thanks hun, I've got a lot of mileage out of that phrase since you taught it to me.

Wow, where do you live?  I haven't seen a water molecule in ages.

I guess it serves me right for moving to the desert.

Sorry Darci, I was in the middle of replying and the site went offline for the update, and then I forgot about it.

I live in South central Alaska. And it is a truly magical place. Here is another pic I just took, (as in about 5 min ago) of a moose (swamp donkey) getting a drink in front of our picture window.

A healthy one too, not all skin and bones. Its still early in the season here and not much has started to grow yet. Still no color but brown in the lawn, an no leaves on the trees. Not a lot for them to eat yet. Hell, that water it's walking though was still ice about a week or two ago.
