Awhile back I received a bevy of cacti cuttings and I think I’m about ready to get them going . I’ve got a variety of different pots ranging in sizes from a quart to a gallon . Grabbed a few bags of cacti soil that I was going to mix with some pea gravel .

I remember reading that minimal sunlight and moisture were required for the cuttings in their first year, I think that’s right ?

So can I mix up that gravel and cacti the pot it three quarters full spritz some water then add the other quarter beforehand placing the cutting on there ?

I know I don't hit alot of likes on this page. But I do check out what u guys are doing and its always awesome.
I figured I'd post this here. So this is my queen of the night. She is 5 years old.. rootbound and has never bloomed. I've been anxiously awaiting the spectacle since last Tuesday and it looks like it may be tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully I can get a pic of the flower before it collapses to share.

That progress is from last weds to today. I've been trying to trigger it for 2 years and its 5 years I've had it so im stoked.

Wish me luck and for real all you guys nice work with the cacti I read it but don't comment on it because I don't have much experience in this area yet. Soon as I get time ima try and obtain some of the botanicals you guys play with here. 71ba01e68aa256dc470adb8467487214.jpg985df868d220e925b10a797a5f91f6f4.jpg05e239547b2f555f787118ee6189d0bc.jpg1883ecb816498c71c870ee475e4da000.jpga310708cee0ef09f6374e050970d3093.jpg399fc4aed8ee01ca430bc1cdda616b74.jpg

Yeah it was kind of weird. It reminded me of mash cooking off honestly lol. Like if you are distilling wine. Thats the only thing I can really think to compare it too.

Did you try to pollinate the bloom? Maybe you'll get a fruit?

I feel lucky just to get it to bloom and see it. Since its my first time and its so delicate I just observed. I would like to try that if I can get another bloom tho is a great idea.

I don't know if grapes are considered botanicals here, I intend to turn them into drugs lol. This is the first year that my vines have set fruit so I'm pretty stoked about that. And here's a little monarch caterpillar that I'm growing. I gotta couple patches of milkweed that I grow for the butterflies

Dioscorea cotinifolia (wild African yam) and Fockea edulis, they are typically grown for their cool caudiforms. I have both of these growing near where I use my glassware. The dioscorea is technically free range now, it's pot was set on the soil to be watered by the sprinklers while some work was being done. It escaped into a clump of cardamom ginger and only it's delicate vines give it away. The Fockea on the other hand really needs to be potted up to a larger size. When I first bought it (15yrs?), the caudex was the size of a grape.

I see your Focea has become quite a massive tangle of branches. You must be in a warm zone. I lost one about 10 years old a few years back with a cold wet rain which triggered the root mass to rot before I caught it. I have another about 3 years old now which I don't leave exposed in the winter months anymore. (not that we have seen much in the way of "winter weather" for well over a year now.

What color are your flowers?

That would suck to loose such a plant Sky! I do get frost and a few hard freezes during winter. This thing you call "rain" though, I've heard of it, we don't seem to worry too much about it around here. :) I think the blooms are white and I do give the plant a "haircut" on occasion when it starts to sprawl.

A few pics from this morning of echinopsis 'Lochivar".

Purchased a lophophora jourdania. A unique plant from a german cultivator. Usually I don't want to spend so much money on cacti. But that one hit me like an auction on ebay.

The cactus started blooming as soon as I got it. It really pays off my investment.
