Was watering the other day and noticed that after a year of being calloused and un-rooted, one of the bonus lophs finally rooted!

This is from May, the brown/purple blob behind the main cactus was the un-rooted cutting.

The same purple/brown cluster is at the bottom of the photo, against the edge of the pot, but nice and green.

I've been working, slowly, on turning my yard into pollinator-friendly native plantings (where I live that means prairie, mostly). Here's a Monarda punctata looking nice this morning.

I woke up to this surprise from starving/thirsty rats!   :bat:

Before:

I had seen bite marks and had a couple emerging PC pups munched off but I wasn't quite sure what it was. Thought maybe it was grasshoppers but now I'm certain it was rats.  #%&!

I was really stoked on this bridgesii graft too. I slab grafted enough of a tip that it started to grow out from the top. I think there's enough of the apical meristem intact that it will continue growing with some funky bite marks. We'll see...

Well, I was able to re-pot the Psych0 x Clyde cross last week. The new pot is significantly larger, about 3qt, though I did have to drill a drainage hole (damn double-glazed ceramic). So far it's looking much better, but still not nearly as plump as when I received it. I've been giving it some extra water to try and get it back to it's former glory, hence the holes in the soil to keep it from staying too wet. I haven't noticed it in person, but it in the photo it looks like this cactus is starting to get that yellow sun-bleached look. Gonna move it so it gets less mid-day sun.

And here's some pics of my 'yote cluster and some seedlings. The yotes are looking great (that brown dustiness only shows in the photo), I can't wait to see larger tufts and some flowers one day! I'm pretty certain it was graft because there was no tap-root, so I wonder how long until it reaches maturity.
attachicon.gif20210528_1333191.jpg

The seedlings are also doing well. They've been fully hardened to the inside environment, and I'm starting to let them dry out a bit between waterings (which are still almost daily). Early last week I gave them some extra water and put them outside in some south-facing shade, they still got a nice sunburn. So for now they are with the orchids under a light.
attachicon.gif20210528_1350421.jpg

All of my cacti are also now getting fertilizer once every week or two. I'm using the Miracle-Gro succulent/cactus fertilizer in the pump bottle, and I dilute one pump with about 4x as much water. I'm sure that there are better ferts to use, but for now my plants look alive and healthy!
~~Also, too lazy to correct the rotation on these photos~~

With plenty of roots and good drainage, that psycho × clyde should be able to handle quit a bit of water. Once a week or so

I think I need to re-mix the substrate for all my cacti. It's currently just local sand. But it doesn't drain too well, and I think they could benefit from the extra nutrients in the perlite/potting soil mix that others recommend. Hopefully I can do that in the next few weeks.

Harrisia sp. I grew them from seed that was supposed to be from dark red fleshed fruits. I'll probably divide them into their own pots next Spring. Second photo is galangal blooming for the first time in my yard.

Photos posted out of order.

Do you guys consider local orchids of interest? The pink lady slipper has been a favorite of mine my whole life and I've got two living in a container and they have seed pods, so I am planning doing a from seed grow with these guys

I would definitely be interested in the orchids. I was going to start my own thread about them, but the seed pods never ripened.

Did you leave them on the plant? From what I'm reading it takes 110-120 days for them to ripen on the stem of the plant
