Triple Datura flower.

Save some seeds if you can manage. That's a cool volunteer you got there!

Just a little update on the Loph seedlings:

One of the containers ended up w/ a real bad cyano (I think) infection. I caught it early and used a spore syringe to inject peroxide into the problem areas, but that may have made it worse. They kept getting more red and darker, so I ended up re-potting them.

I had two identical containers that never sprouted, and got a bit moldy. So I dumped the contents into a beaker, and added a bunch of H2O2 to help clean it. Then I rinsed the sand really well and baked off most of the water at 450F. I then added some gypsum, limestone, and a touch of bentonite, wet it down a little, and sifted it all.

I potted the seedlings in the grit I sifted out of the sand, and top dressed w/ some of the fines. I was able to dig out the seedlings in little clumps of sand that protected the roots. I then dipped them in clean water to get all the old sand off, and placed them in their new holes.

They are still pretty dark, but clearly green (except maybe the stunted one) and firm. And the camera makes them look darker too, I tried sunlight, indirect light, and flash.

The other two pots of seedlings are doing just fine. Curiously, they never had touch of algae/cyano. And they are also looking dark, but it's all green and they seem quite healthy. I did move them to the kitchen window last week. They get some morning and mid-day sun diffused through a screen and broken up by the shadow of ornamental bars on the window. I'm keeping a close eye on them, will give them a break if they need it.

Look at the golden spines of this bridgesii.

Was a good season, it doubled its size.

@HrVanker Your lophs look good. Be careful with exposure to sunlight they go very dark from too much sunlight. I have to post an update on my lophs but they grow very slow ...

They have some blemishes but are healthy otherwise. They were seed grown, lost label but either Lumberjack x Ikaros DNA, KGC x Ikaros DNA or Huanucoensis x Big Bertha. Theres also some clones like Eileen, SS Huancabamba, Lumberjack that I could cut if any is interested. The LJ is

Just a general cactus update:
Most of the "seedlings" have really started to take off. Will probably re-pot most of them in larger pots this winter.

These are the grafts I did. They are looking a little red, but are really taking off. The one looks like a rose!

The momma cluster is looking great too, just chugging along.
20221102_112342.jpg

And the loph seedlings are looking fine. The camera still isn't picking up the color very well. But they are all shades of healthy green, except for the stunted one.

Lookin' good everyone! I haven't posted for 3 months, so here's a long one.

Psilyguy, those are great prices! I'd be interested in a cut of SS Huancabamba.

Back in July or August I started having major problems with rats eating my cacti. So, I put up little fences of plastic, or metal, chicken wire around each column. It took forever moving everything around to get this done. I feel like the fences messes up the aesthetic of my plants but they work! Also, bite marks mess up the aesthetic a whole lot more lol

I've had the most weeds popping up in my plants than ever this growing season. I wonder if the top dressing I added had some seeds? The tight space of my grow enclosure and the new rat fencing has made weeding such a headache. I need room to walk around and be able to reach each pot. Next year I plan to rebuild or add on to the structure I built for my trichos. It's just a basic wooden frame with a shade cloth on the top and west facing side, along with some deer fencing to keep the dogs out. It's filled to capacity at this point. When Fall arrives, I add some plastic over the top to keep the rain out. It gets cold here at night, so I cover it with moving blankets when temps dip below freezing.

Now, let's get to some photos! I have more that I'll put in another post soon.

Fences or not LoneRanger, nothing is masking the awesomeness, beautiful colors and form of that gorgeous collection you have going there.....

Your Peruvians have some of the best blue's I have seen. Award worthy I think...........

Looks like the graft is doing well Boebs. Cool looking structure with lots of hairy tufts....

I have been under heavy rain several (2 to 3) days, every week since January. I just can't do any more than move the potted trichs under eaves or at least up on a large wood platform. Some are just too heavy to move very far now.

The ground is so saturated it can't absorb any downpours now, and my yard has flooded for days in the low areas.  I can't leave the pots sitting in standing water so I at least try to get them above the waterline . The smaller cactus and yotes have been in a small greenhouse for months, but the big stuff has been wet pretty much nonstop. It even snowed for 1 1/2 hours a few weeks ago, which I have never seen here. So far, only one Trich has split, but it's going to be a miracle if I don't lose anything to rot this year...........
