Good question skunk..........
I have one of these penis cultivars, and agree there are not the areolas you would expect a pup to form from. Nevertheless I see mine produce both base pups and side pups, so there must be some internal structure that allows a vascular system to form to feed the new side growth.

You know your base pup will keep growing. Given time you could see additional side pups form as is, but I would probably try it, judging from your obvious success with grafts, and the fact that another project to add to the hundreds you have going does not seem to dissuade you..........................

I'll give it a bash. You know me and my peojects Skywatcher . ....Shits getting real serious over here, I've been amassing a very large collection of Lophophora/Lophophora Williamsii over the last while with one of my partners. The collection has become pretty sick between the two of us. We have close to 1500 Specimens and very close to all localities. The money invested in this project is off the wall. I think i have a seroius addiction.....

There are a few holes in our collection which we will hopefully fill in the near future and our planned seed sowing will help provided future stock for breeding purposes ..... But for the next while I'll have my hands and grow full.

Im currantly in the process of converting an old 14 x 8 foot room in to a large grow. Will be running 3 1000 watt ballests with 2MH bulbs and 1 HPS. This room will house the bulk of my cacti collection over the winter and help me conduct my Lophophora Williamsii Projects...

While this project is still in the works and has a very long way to go it should get very interesting in the next few months - Years. Hopefully by this time next year, I'll have a very nice breeding project on the go and be able to produce thousands of seeds.

Ill go into more details in my Cacti thread, as I have alot of work the next few days sorting and arranging my currant grow room to accommodate my grafting projects I have on the go...

All these are locality Specific Specimens.

I'll definitely break it down more indepth in my Cacti Adventures thread as this coming week they will all be repotted into proper containers and medium. But this Skunk has his hands full. One more package of 150 Lophophora/Lophophora Williamsii is due to arrive this following week knock on wood.

lol ya something ;) I cant say what happened to them without getting into trouble lol

I didnt try and graft all of them but ya cut the tops off most ... I like watching them grow back like this ...I should get a couple of pups off them as they grow back ...this is what happened last time I cut them off ... the 2 grafts I did one is doing good its attached anyway and the other one fell off .....my prickly pear is growing like crazy but its been waiting in the window for me to re pot it and its stretching so I took it outside last night ....it might be perfect for grafting now tho skinny almost round pads...

its like watching a sock turn its self right side out lol interesting watching them grow ...soon well before when I did this they got 2 pups and the original dried out and got absorbed by the 2 pups....you can end up with lots propagating this cacti in diff ways ....Im gonna try and clone a few tomato plants today ...but I want to take a look at my prickly pear i just put out last night see how the new growth looks maybe plan something neat with this as grafting stock maybe put a trich on the top or something??.... I think I cut 13 tops off and 1 out of 2 grafts took that leaves 11 unaccounted for I think they r about 5 years or so under ten ruffly size of my thumbnail ...nice they are growing back since all the clones didnt take

Loph f. Grafted to selenicereus grandiflorus
Gave me a beautiful double flower for her first bloom!

Grown from seed grafted to pereskiopsis then to selenicereus grandiflorus for a longer term graft.
