Well thanks to my fellow topians' help, today I start my golden oyster log. I have had a fully colonized wbs jar that I was trying to figure out what to do with. Turkey Ranch steered me to the lazlo newspaper tek https://mycotopia.ne...den-oyster-jar/ and here goes!

I scaled it down a tiny bit as my quart jar of oyster spawn is at about 50% but I had a fully colonized half pint ready so onward.

Pictured below, bleach, bucket of water, daily news Nov.4, and a cookie container to hold my oyster/fungi brick.

my paper is near the end of it's 2hr bleach soak, I will post more pictures as I go.

So, here are the next steps. I started layering the spawn with the bleached newspaper. Pictured below are the gloves, the bleach bucket, my beer, and all of my helpers:

Emma the dog, Darby Crash the cat, and Liz Lemon the cat.

They were a big help.

last picture is for kicks.

I wrapped a plastic bag around the spawn/newspaper block, pressed it down and locked it in a cabinet...

You can use waaaaaaaaay less spawn than that. I would use about a pint for an entire shopping bag full. Oyster is incredibly robust and you will be surprised how quickly a small amount of spawn will colonize a substrate that it likes. Of course, the more spawn you use the faster it will go, but thickly layering it like you have in that first pic is way overkill IMO.

Also, keep in mind that the smaller your block is, the less fruit you're going to get out of it. Oysters (in general and depending on the strain) will probably give you 2 good flushes at most off of a substrate block. Diminishing returns after the second flush so it's better to toss and start new.

Yes but I am not successful with "non-actives", my last golden oyster block straight stalled the fuck out. So bad that I buried it in hopes it would come up through the dirt..

thank you tastybev!

Goldens are a warmer temperature strain, so they like higher fruiting temps. Late fall going into winter is maybe not the best time to be trying out this strain. Blue oysters on the other hand love cooler fruiting temps... one winter i left the heat off in my house for like a month so i could fruit bigger clusters. Haha, i froze my ass off but we ate well.

Golden oysters need lots and lots of fresh air. Way more than actives. I found that indoor my best results were in a sfc with the lid off by a window. Misting the walls of the chamber and the block a few times a day. Are you having any luck so far?

Well i moved the golden oysters (not the lazlo tek, but the cake that stalled) into a semi-greenhouse environment and look what happened!

I also have a similar experiment with random actives I had tossed outside, dug up and put in a pot to colonize "au natural"

Oysters often do well when fruiting out a hole ... in this case if you placed a sheet of plastic over the sub surface with quarter-sized holes 4 or 5 inches apart the oyster would fruit through the holes and benefit from the humidity the plastic offers. Many people drill holes in the sides of the tub itself and the oyster fruits through them.

Good luck.

Thank you, my only concern is that this particular pot was used for a couple of basil plants and retains a TON of moisture (I think the root structure is still intact), if I were to cover it I'm afraid of growing other microbes. I did have it covered and it displayed cobweb..

They also love the laundry basket tek. These were grown indoors outside of my GH. All four sides fruited well but this was the best side and the only pic I have of that grow. All in all I had so many mushrooms, I had to give some away! They were good though.
