pretty great, and the weird thing is I was spraying it with abandon thinking they were oysters, so misting was cool, and bleach was fine too..
so much that I went with the same tek for this grow:

if you could give us a dry weight and let us know how much grain was used that would be great.

Well the original "oyster grow" was a fully colonized half pint of cube spawn layered with a thursday edition of the daily news, which (I am spitballing here) was a 1:1 ratio. I wasn't really into weighing the flush as it was "bonus" material. However the paperback grow is approx 5g of colonized popcorn to the paperback (which should be fully colonized in about 3 weeks) and I will post exact weights of.
strain: large fruit (paperback)

i was wondering a dry weight on the harvest, not the grain lol. wondering how efficient
the biomass was more than anything. i normally get at least an oz per quart of grain for
cube grows, more like 2-3 and up to 4 since i have learned more about fungi.
i'm particularly interested if this same yield ratio is possible using paper as a substrate.

Any experiences using shredded paper?
I'm currently using poo/straw but I like the idea of recycling the paper from my paper shredder.
And if I use paper couldn't I just pasteurize it in the oven like I do now?

Don't have any shredded paper experience but the myc is tearing through the old ass book.
tractor, I will keep you updated.. or start a side by side..

taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper
Paper is a thin material produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets.

They also love the laundry basket tek. These were grown indoors outside of my GH. All four sides fruited well but this was the best side and the only pic I have of that grow. All in all I had so many mushrooms, I had to give some away! They were good though.

Yes but I want to get what is equal to a qt jar grain hydrated to the newspaper.. Then weigh the dry yield.
Posted 03 December 2014 - 02:58 PM
that's my basis of comparison, one quart of grain. just easy for others to replicate.
Posted 03 December 2014 - 03:11 PM
I understand, I have to hydrate some grain, determine the weight, and then match it with field capacity newspaper I think.. Then we can more accurately judge the yields IMO. Thoughts?

just check the dry weight after a flush. IME the dry grain that will make up a quart
of WBS weighs about 300 grams, quart of popcorn weighs about 400, wheat and
rye fall in between those two numbers.

I will report back..

gave it a 24hr dunk after a good scrape and picked all aborts.. will report back.

I got my answer here to the question I posted in my thread. Progress reports, please. My luck, I'd be attempting to grow cubes or pans and get crimini's!!
Posted 12 December 2014 - 01:55 PM
trashed it, it stalled even after 2 dunks..
Posted 12 December 2014 - 02:08 PM
you did scrape it and remove all the pins, it had to re-pin. a cubensis
culture produces all of the primordia for two flushes at once. between
the second and third flush it produces more primordia.
primordia formation takes 6-10 days, so what you thought was stalling
might have actually been recovery from removing the primordia. that's
why I don't scrape or remove anything between the 1st and 2nd flush.

It showed no growth or change of any kind after more than a week. I trash stuff before it contaminates (usually past the 2nd or 3rd flush though)
I have a half pint of spawn ready to go, Let's try it again!
