You don't get to see this kind of growth in jars. 11 days.

Today it's really starting to bust through the top layer. 12 days.

lazlo17dec30.jpg

I'm thinking that since this was a success even this far, I can see real potential here for safe grow out of mycelium. I can't see it not fruiting, but if that happens it's probably my fault not the tek.

Next I want to try making a slurry out of the pf cake. I will have some soon.

Spread that between the paper layers. Use maybe one jar per one shoebox. I used two jars of Oasis strain for this one.

I will continue to load progress pictures here until it is complete.

It is so rewarding seeing the progress outside the jar. I know it's looking back at me from the abyss.

Toilet paper might be good too, if you could inoculate between the plies. My shredded paper project is really kicking in. It has been a little cooler than the flat paper, maybe I should swap them.

lazlo16Dec31.jpg lazloshred5.jpg . I am definitely keeping an eye on this one. Easiest, most tolerant......works, what can I say?

Back again with an update.

jan4grows (7).JPG

The flat paper got cold, 45 deg. when the furnace went out on New Years Eve. I fixed the heater Jan 1, but forgot I had taken the lid off to inspect, so when the temp rocked out to 80 deg overnight, this cake was cooked. After 3 days of misting and talking real quiet to it, it is starting to grow again. Back at 70 deg now, and looking better.

jan4grows (8).JPG

This is the shredded paper, from the shredder so it is a variety of different kinds of paper, plastic, etc. Also used half fucked cakes, cutting out bad parts, and partially colonized cakes, scraping off sub.

It is doing very well. No sign of contams. Smells like gold!

What do you suppose would happen if we were to soak another bunch of paper and layer pages of this one with new clean ones. You think it would keep growing out?

Not so sure. I finally put mine to fruit but only because I saw little pins/knots peeking out, I'm assuming that since newspaper isn't a favorite mold food that it'll be fine, so again I don't know..

I'm using healthy spawn but you used stalled out cakes which would have most likely been thrown out or contaminated so what the heck, go for it..

Nor does anybody, and I don't think it's such an out there idea. It is new, from what I've been trying to research, and found nothing. I'm not sure what I'm doing here, but I think I'm going to try and spread it out a bit more before casing.

I have plates coming tomorrow and I'm going to wait and get some samples of this before I chance losing it entirely. I'm thinking a three way split with more newspaper, cracked corn and wbs. See where that leads.

Still waiting to see what you did. Your camera break? JK Catattack, this has been a great adventure, and I thank you for setting me out here.

It's been at least a couple of weeks, but......there's a pin.

Nothing yet on the shredded, but it was a couple days behind.

This is pretty cool, who'd a thunk!!!

Catattack, your camera still broken? LOL.

I am really impressed with the lack of contams on this. I have split up the shredded paper to a liquid culture, a cased shoe box, a quart of corn, a quart of wbs, and some of the original which still is packed with good looking myc.

None of the others are contaminating either. They are sure taking their time though, and that I suppose is cuz there isn't much nutrient to support rapid growth.

What an efficient way of storing, especially as you noted, at temps in the low 60's.

Noted that, I'm suggesting that mine are NOT fruiting at 58 - 60. The one that is starting averages 72 deg.

MINE is the storage, If I raise the temp, maybe it will fruit?

For now, storage is good.

lowering temps is a trigger for pins typically, but I imagine at a certain low temps you are in storage mode (as long as the other triggers are absent).. @hypheanation or @tr or @coorsmikey @cyclenaught or @insert more experienced grower here might know..

fine, I'll upload some photos!
