I am not getting alerts when people "tag" me, huh. Wonder why? It's working for other people? It may be my profile settings, I will check.

I like the places where this is going, ever since Hyph's pucks, I have wanted to see more people try similar things. I think I will be using paper and leaf pulp in a bunch of my edibles grows this spring. Love getting ideas.

Happy, that looks great! Your gonna get at least a few fruits off that project.

@coorsmikey gets my tags and so does hyph I think..

I don't either, and don't even really know what that is, but I see it in the huge pics that are sometimes posted and wondered how they did that.

I am having camera problems, and would have loved to send a pic from this morning.

I have at least 20 large pins now, you can't even read the paper any more!!

The large one is almost three inches tall and an inch in diameter and shows no sign of stopping.

I consider this a huge success, although a little slow.

I have about 3 dozen jars full of fully colonized mycelium, and this one took 2 jars to inoculate.

Add it up with the zero cost of old newspaper and ''''......''''''

I hear this works for oysters too?

no pins on bottom as of yet, there is an air gap to grow in, if they are so inclined.

PURDY! This tek is ideal for oysters IMO as oysters are primary decomposers, they like fallen logs, paper is like a fallen log, whereas cubes are secondary decomposers, ie, dung..

Apparently we are pushing the boundaries a bit here, Cat.

I have really gotten a lot of info about this and countless other possibilities by joining you on this grow.

Thanks, again.

cubes will also play the role of primary decomposers or they wouldn't

do what they are doing. they also grow on straw that hasn't been otherwise

biologically changed, another example of primary decomposition. oysters

also grow on composted wood mulch and straw.

Yes but I have difficulty with oysters, I can look at a brf cake and cubes will pop out. My lady friend owns a bikram (hot) yoga studio, I'm moving my golden oysters there based on her mean temp being in the high 80's.. as @tastybev informed me of the golden guys liking warmer temps than blues.. we shall see!

I did fruit them once, and I ate them..  :tinfoil:

I just had to post again, this sucker tripled in size overnight. It's not going to have room in the fc, but it seems to like containment, so I'm leaving it for now. Misting and fae twice a day now, or it calls to me....

For some reason they do very well on straw, but whenever people try plain paper, the results are pretty mediocre at best.

A thought for Happy: if you cloned that big shroom, there is a chance you might be able to get a substrain that eats raw cellulose more efficiently, and if you tried it again with that clone, you might get better results.

Cat: are you going straight from spores to corn? Can you do that?

TR: My thoughts exactly.

This is the first time I've tried this strain, and it would be hard not to try it again on paper just like this.

I lost a bunch of work due to contaminated syringes, (that I made), and I'm gearing up for the next phase.....

Glove box work.

I can't tell you the last time I used an actual spore syringe (with spores).. I'm lc2g, g2g, etc...

I'm messing around with Orissa, "large fruit", and taz...

@turkeyranch My original "random substrates I have laying around" thread, I actually found the coffee/verm jar and it's pinning now in the FC (tasmanian)

happy4nic8r,
An idea, do you have this 'puk' wrapped in plasti?
If these where oysters I'd think wrap in plastic and cut slits for fruiting out of thy slits.

Being cubes,if you expose a larger surface to fresh air, causing evaporation should promote pinning.

Blending paper products with various substrate additives, like manures, coir, leaves, garlic stalks etc etc and then squeezing out the extra water inside a vessel like a yogurt container, which presses it into a cake-like shape works really well.

I got over a quarter pound wet off this grow, but they weren't as strong, or as bad tasting as they usually are. I don't know if it's the strain, or the lack of nutes, but it was sure fun.

This was one of a bunch of prints I put on a paper towel and laminated, probably sterilizing the spores, but it makes a good visual.

Oas print.JPG

I'm trying Hyph's puck teck next, waiting on some grains to colonize.
