Oddly enough, my search returned nothing when I attempted to find a 'favorite quotes' thread.

Please delete this if I was in error.

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury.

You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.

Adapt yourself to the things among which your lot has been cast and love sincerely the fellow creatures with whom destiny has ordained that you shall live.

Sorry for the awkward layout, I'm still getting a

feelforthe weird typography of cut n paste here.

Please...feel free to share your found wisdom and funny asides...

“The world rests upon the bedrock of satya, or truth.
Asatya, meaning untruth, also means 'non-existent,'
and satya, or truth, also means 'that which is.'
If untruth does not so much as exist, its victory is out of the question.
And truth, being that which is, can never be destroyed.
This is the doctrine of Satyagraha in a nutshell.”

"Knowledge without follow-through is worse than no knowledge at all. because if you're guessing and it doesn't work out you can just say, shit, the gods are against me. But if you know and don't do, you've got attics and dark halls in your mind to walk up and down in and wonder about. This ain't healthy, leads to unpleasant evenings, too much to drink and the shredding machine."

"For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stonewritten. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us."

CHARLES BUKOWSKI

"Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I'd like to see you living in better conditions."

"The words you speak become the house you live in."

I tried to have The Lorax completely memorized for Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday in 2004.  I had it almost all down but wasn't confident enough so I had to read it instead.

All life is a circle. The atom is a circle, orbits are circles, the earth, moon, and sun are circles. The seasons are circles. The cycle of life is a circle: baby, youth, adult, elder. The sun gives life to the earth who feeds life to the trees whose seeds fall to the earth to grow new trees. We need to practice seeing the cycles that the Great Spirit gave us because this will help us more in our understanding of how things operate. We need to respect these cycles and live in harmony with them.

ROLLING THUNDER, attributed, The Voice of Rolling Thunder

The distinction between life and lifeless is a human construct. Every atom in this body existed before organic life emerged 4000 million years ago. Remember our childhood as minerals, as lava, as rocks? Rocks contain the potentiality to weave themselves into such stuff as this. We are the rocks dancing. Why do we look down on them with such a condescending air? It is they that are an immortal part of us.

JOHN SEED, Thinking Like a Mountain

So we will share this road we walk,
And mind our mouths and beware our talk,
'Till peace we find, tell you what I'll do,
All the things I own I will share with you,
And if I feel tomorrow like I feel today,
We'll take what we want and give the rest away,
Strangers on this road we are on,
We are not two, we are One.

THE KINKS, "Strangers"

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Charlie 'gets' me.

“I've never been lonely. I've been in a room -- I've felt suicidal. I've been depressed. I've felt awful -- awful beyond all -- but I never felt that one other person could enter that room and cure what was bothering me...or that any number of people could enter that room. In other words, loneliness is something I've never been bothered with because I've always had this terrible itch for solitude. It's being at a party, or at a stadium full of people cheering for something, that I might feel loneliness. I'll quote Ibsen, "The strongest men are the most alone." I've never thought, "Well, some beautiful blonde will come in here and give me a fuck-job, rub my balls, and I'll feel good." No, that won't help. You know the typical crowd, "Wow, it's Friday night, what are you going to do? Just sit there?" Well, yeah. Because there's nothing out there. It's stupidity. Stupid people mingling with stupid people. Let them stupidify themselves. I've never been bothered with the need to rush out into the night. I hid in bars, because I didn't want to hide in factories. That's all. Sorry for all the millions, but I've never been lonely. I like myself. I'm the best form of entertainment I have. Let's drink more wine!”
