here is a video on Hoof fungi, tinder conk, Amadou or Fomes fomentarius
here is some notes on the bottom if you are interested in a mushroom hat let me know I will enter your name into a draw to win the hat Subscribe to my youtube channel if you can please and then you can watch all the videos when I put them out I do post many in here at mycotopia tho so you wont miss anything if you dont sub much love xoxox
This fungus is a special one it does have a few uses that can seem magical
1 you can carry a coal for a long time even without blowing on it, it smoldered for 20 minutes. I got it started with a coal from the fire place and blew on it a bit and then it was good in the ashtray for 20 minutes... With lighters these days we don't think about what a need these fungi were long ago... To carry a coal and help start a new fire would be priceless... Even the logs it grows on can be great Tinder
But fire starting is not the only magic trick...
2 It can be used to make a material like felt or leather but with a mushroom not an animal... I have played with this process and I might again later but a mushroom friend gave me a purse and a hat...
I carry the purse when I hunt for mushrooms but I thought the hat would make a nice surprise for one of my subscriber friends... If you are interested just leave me a comment about the hat and I will enter your name into a draw to win it... I will let you all get a chance so I will give you all a couple weeks to comment

"Along with Piptoporus betulinus, Fomes fomentarius is one of two mushrooms that the Tyrolean Iceman was carrying around 5000 years ago. He apparently used Fomes fomentarius as tinder."
Piptoporus betulinus is harder to find this time of year I think the deer eat it all as this is the only time of year it becomes soft lol the tracks in the snow were deer tracks hoping in and out of the woods i bet looking for this fungus https://www.mushroom...t.com/piptop...

Sorry my phone memory was full ran out of video quick there the hawk used it all up lol
Birch trees bark will outlast the wood within very neat video showing a log hollowed out probably due to the mushrooms eating it ants and other bugs carring it away ;)

Usually i burn once then tan
This year i got a bit pink the one day not even a burn
The next day i put chaga sunscreen on and i have not burned ...i have used it a few times ....no burn on my arms or chest or neck shoulders
Yesterday I put it on but didn't get my lower back and well i got a bit pink there but not anywhere else
Chagas dark pigment is like our pigment in our skin
That blocks the sun enough that we don't burn
It would actually tanning is like cooking our skin really to tuffen it up so we dont burn so much
Same reason the outside of the chaga is dark
Sounds like its part of an oxidation process with the sun also cooking with heat
When we use a sun block it blocks out so much sun based on the amount of block it offers but it also blocks off vitamin d production
Chaga contains vitamin d like many other mushrooms contain so in my opinion mixing it with aloe Vera gel can maybe help vitamin d absorption instead of blocking it but its not proven
These people in that video above or here i will post it again
They are doing all the studdieng and tests to find out all the questions hopefully
So if we have any insight questions etc i will be able to pass it on to them or go to the direct YouTube link and chat with them in their comments section he answers once a week or so
This is what i like about learning off the internet is the direct communication with the ones working on it
Much love xoxox

IMHO it IS one of the most useful "powers" of the internet........opening the channels of communication and sharing WITH examples, also interactive dialog......
As soon as advertising and commercial interests become involved everything seems to go to shit.......we would do well to learn from that methinks.....
Back atcha and thanks for sharing Wilde......

More coming soon what do you all think?
These mushrooms were growing from leaf peatish litter not really wood so Mycena or Hygrocybe?
But we also show one at the end (still need to upload it) that shows one almost the same but brown nipples lol ;) this brown nipple one was growing from birch log or balsam log very rotten but clearly was wood at one point ;)
Mycena leaiana
https://www.mushroom...na_leaiana.html
Or Hygrocybe crocea
https://it.m.wikiped...ygrocybe_crocea
Or Hygrocybe acutoconica
https://www.mushroom...cutoconica.html
This one matches really well
*Stem that splits down the middle and cone cap with nipple at times

I’m continually amazed at the abundance of nature when we just slow down enough to notice it. Thank you sharing!
